Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!
Well, I got to play around with Pilotwings at Target. I like the system. Nice, bright screen. Pretty good 3D effect for me with a little slider adjustment. Not really sure how much difference the 3D made to the gameplay -- I tried it in 2D and it pretty much played just the same. Also, as I expressed concerns about before, I think the resolution is pretty sub-optimal; things looked a little blurry to me. Still, it's a cool 3D effect and I like that disc D-pad.
I remember people saying it would be a problem for lefties to use this system, but can't remember why -- any leftie with an opinion on the system?
Anyway, if money weren't tight right now for me, I might have picked one up. Right now I'm in the middle of a major home remodel and building a new home theater room, so this sort of device seems kind of pointless -- especially for some one like me who only travels a couple of weeks per year.
Maybe when the inevitable redesign and price drop comes down the pike I'd pick one up. It sure is pretty cool. Still I wonder if the novelty would wear off after a while. Might want to see how the PSP2 turns out before I decide to pick up one or the other.

Well, if he's putting it up here that probably was the idea.
I have not yet received credit for the system or the game I ordered.

I really do like the 3d effect though. For some reason, I feel if this system cost only $200 I would jump right in.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!
Got my system from Amazon this afternoon, but opened it and found finger prints from the factory on the screens... which only got worse from there. Cleaned it and saw little air-like splotches under the screen. Turned it on, and there was a dead/black pixel on the top 3D screen mid-left of center. Boxed it right back up and filled out an amazon return form. Sigh... >_>

Yeesh. Sorry to hear that. My DS Lite also had a dead pixel, but I ordered it from Japan before they came out in the states, so returning it wasn't really an option.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!
Played it a bit last night, but I only opened Nintendogs... Street Fighter is on the way.
Did the system update, which was relatively painless. I had never seen a demo unit, so this was my first experience with the 3d screen, which is neat, but I do get the feeling that it'll be similar to the touchscreen in that it's a bit gimmicky... some of my favorite DS games used the touchscreen sparingly. I look forward to more 1st party games coming out.
I had skipped the DSi and DSi XL, since I didn't really see the need to get a new system to add downloadable games, so this was a worthy upgrade from my Lite. Well, not really a true upgrade, I guess, since I'll still have to use my Lite for all the DS RPGs. It's odd, one of the features I was most excited about was the ability to use WPA2 encryption; I realize this only applies to newer games, but I can finally download that gift Pokemon from Black/White without having to downgrade to WEP.

Got one of the game credits and the free accessory credit. I had to go for the absurd stuffed animal case.
Also, Nintendogs is out for shipping!
The 3DS is not.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!
I just got mine from Amazon, and boy am I impressed. I haven't dived into it at all really other than taking a look at it, and doing the system update, but it already won me over. I love how it looks, its one attractive piece of hardware. I'll get to playing with the games and stuff right now in a minute.
Don't forget, with the system update you get a 3D OK Go music video, the one with the dogs. It says the video will be deleted with the next system update, so if you want to see it give it a ok go pretty soon.
I'll write more soon.

Well well well, looks like the tracking is a bit behind, because the system just showed up on my door! Woohoo!

Wow, someone brought this to work and I tried it for about 5 minutes. The AR cards are the coolest thing about it. One thing though, I got a headache and only used it for 5 minutes.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!
A few things I noticed from playing around with it while wearing the battery down:
You really have to find that sweet spot. Any slight deviation will ruin the effect. Also, dust on the top screen is intensely noticeable, as it breaks up the image.
My favorite part is taking 3D photos. Getting action shots of my cat is much more fun than it should be.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!
Well, I caved and bought one of these today. Picked up Pilot Wings and Chrono Trigger (ds). I quite like it, but have slight buyer's remorse due to the cost and also the fact that the game library is just really marginal right now. Still, I've only played with it for about 20 minutes. Pilot Wings is okay, but I probably should have bought a different game with more content. I look forward to seeing the quality of Chrono Trigger, an original DS game, on the 3DS. Anyone have any experience with this yet?

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!
I popped in a DS game and it looked fine. The complaints seemed to come from the fact that the new top screen is wider than the old one, and so the games come up windowboxed. But they're not tiny, they're the same size as they are on the regular DS. The complaints are just silly.

Re: Nintendo Announces 3DS - 3D w/o Glasses!
I don't know if it reflects a decreased demand, too high a price point or if it merely reflects the first time that Nintendo properly anticipated demand, but I see these 3DSs in all the stores. I've never seen new Nintendo hardware so readily available at launch. Hell, even Wii Play and the Wii Motion Plus were sold out instantaneously. Again, not sure what that means, but it is interesting.
Of course the Kinect sold in record amounts and it was readily available most of the time after launch. So this might not mean anything at all.
