My Wii doesn't turn on, HELP!

Yes, there's power to the outlet. I check the circuit breaker.

What can I do? Pressing the power button does nothing. If there was a surge, am I outta luck and have to buy a new Wii?

Is it plugged in? All the wires?

Yes, checked the wires. Plugged them in, pulled them out and plugged the power cord back in (on both ends). There's no light, not even the standby light.

Maybe the power pack(big gray box) on the cord is dead

Try a different tv?
Before you buy a new wii just go to a store and buy a replacement ac adapter. Better to spend $20 than another $200.
Some places will let you return the ac adapter even if its open.

i'll try buying another power cord. hate having to wait though, especially since i have a snow day tomorrow. : (

if that doesn't work, how do I get the game that's in the Wii right now out of it?

Well... it's a common issue and there may be an easy fix.

Now, if you did something silly like not having a quality surge protector on it you may have a 'white brick'. Assuming you were smart enough to use a good surge protector:

First try unplugging the unit for 3 full minutes, then plug it back in and try power. Make sure you both unplug the power cord form the outlet, as well as the Wii itself. That's a reset on a Wii.

Try that and report back.

^^^^

Try what he said.

I have had this happen a few times and unplugging the powerbrick from the Wii and the wall outlet then letting it set for about 5 min always does the trick.

My Wii doesn't turn on either, but as far as I know, it still works....I just can't think of a reason to turn it on. :(

Wait, that's not fair... House of the Dead: Overkill was awesome.

Due to all the snow, I had Friday off, but of course, the power goes out. So I can't even check to see if unplugging the AC adapter on both ends will work.

Chess, i may need your system if the trick doesn't work.

Also, anyone know how to eject the disc that's in it right now if I can't get the unit to power up?

This happened to mine and it was because the fan broke. If the fan doesn't work, the Wii won't turn on.

I had to send it to Nintendo and they fixed for about $75 I think.

Yours could be different but mine was the same, power was getting to it but it just refused to turn on.

Okay, thanks to all the helpful suggestions ("hammer" included). Unplugging and plugging it back in helped.

/it crowd Did you turn it off and back on again?

and I was just kidding man. If it was broken though that would be the best way to get the disc out if you are trashing it :P

I had this exact same problem. The key is waiting long enough for the surge protector inside the brick to reset itself.

not quite sure what you're asking. if you're asking if i turned it off and on after removing the AC adapter and then plugging it back in, then yeah.

using a hammer seems like such a violent way to get the disc out. i think i would have used some screwdrivers. :)

hence the /it crowd tag before it... It's a line from that show.

Using a hammer instead of a screwdriver on electronics headed for the trash feels really good.
