Re: Rock Band Thread - This thread was made for Rockin, and that's just what it'll do
Yeah, I've seen Phoenix on a lot of "Best of 2009" lists and their upcoming inclusion in Rock Band finally inspired me to check them out. Picked up the album and it's fantastic. Will definitely be getting the two songs on Thursday.

Re: Rock Band Thread - This thread was made for Rockin, and that's just what it'll do
There's a Best Buy Reward Zone Gamer's Club coupon for $20 off Lego Rock Band good between today and January 31. Their regular price on it is $49.99, with the coupon bringing it down to $29.99. Not a bad deal. What better way to celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. than by picking up Lego Rock Band on the cheap?
Same coupon is also good for $20 off Ghostbusters and Hasbro Family Game night, bringing them down to $19.99 after coupon. More at CAG. (EDIT: Coupon is only good for the 360 versions of these games, apparently.) |
Re: Rock Band Thread - This thread was made for Rockin, and that's just what it'll do
I can't believe Ghostbusters is still so expensive. Great game, but for a licensed game that came out 9 months ago it should be $20 SRP by now.

I bought Gostbusters at Best Buy for 20 bucks the week before Chistmas without a coupon (was on sale, for all systems).

Rock Band Network launching Tomorrow??
http://kotaku.com/5451495/rock-band-...l+%28Kotaku%29 MTV's Rock Band Network, an ambitious program aimed at letting "anyone" upload a song to the game's store, will be launching tomorrow, according to the Wall Street Journal. In a piece on MTV's plans for the store, the WSJ piece opens with "MTV Games is hoping to goose sales of its flagging "Rock Band" series with a new service Tuesday that lets average users upload and sell videogame versions of their own music." We knew it was launching in "early 2010", but hadn't figured on it launching this early, and with such little fanfare. The WSJ report also says that while the service is intended for smaller bands, groups like Creed and Evanescence will have music available on the Network tomorrow. Even though they're massive acts. Go figure. UPDATE - WaveGroup, a "game audio production group", has told Kotaku that it will be releasing music from the following artists on the Rock Band Network store: Steve Vai Widespread Panic Gov't Mule Reverend Horton Heat Stroke 9 Galactic Rebelution Bif Naked Assembly of Dust Nick Gallant Kid Beyond RX Bandits Jet Black Kiss Doug Doppler Austin Willacy The Humans Rain Dogs |

I can't imagine RBN launching with no fanfare.

http://kotaku.com/5451495/rock-band-...l+%28Kotaku%29 I wish they would hurry up already! There are like 30+ songs already approved and ready to be released. |
Re: Rock Band Thread - This thread was made for Rockin, and that's just what it'll do
A bit more info:
Harmonix has confirmed with us today that open beta registration for its Rock Band Network will open this evening. Once enrolled, link your rockband.com account to creators.rockband.com to begin uploading music, peer reviewing, and previewing tracks. According to the developer, tracks by Jonathan Coulton and Billy Idol (as well as some Finnish death metal) will be among the tracks that are slated to appear on the Rock Band Network. Additionally, the Wall Street Journal is reporting that multi-platinum artists Creed and Evanescence will also have music on the service. Indie label Sub Pop's plans are also made a bit more clear -- expect music from The Shins, Flight of the Conchords, Mudhoney, Sleater-Kinney, and The Postal Service. Harmonix says that the actual Rock Band Network Store won't be live "until we accrue a good base of content, though we're already really excited by what we have in the pipeline." Track prices will range from $1 to $3, set by the bands and track authors. Maybe 50 songs will be the magic number? |

Re: Rock Band Thread - This thread was made for Rockin, and that's just what it'll do
Everything I've seen so far has put most (if not all) of the initial tracks at $1/80pts. I'm sure that some of the major label stuff will be the more standard $2/160 pts. I doubt anyone's going to go up to the $3 mark any time soon, unless the song is both well-known and reaching towards the 10-minute limit.

Holy shit! I never in a million years thought I'd see Rx Bandits make it into Rock Band.

$3 is a lot...I read something just recently that said bands get about $0.30/download.

From Creators Club: Creators will receive 70 percent of the total revenue from their game sales as a baseline. We will additionally invest in and feature a handful of games at a time by promoting them both on the console as well as on Xbox.com. During this promotional period where games are showcased along with a handful of others, we will deduct 10-30 percent promotional fee based on performance in exchange for driving increased exposure and sales. Basically, the developer will always benefit from the sales of their games and we’ll be working with our merchandising team to help boost the game’s revenue when we see potential for even greater success. This business model will act as an additional incentive to for game creators ensure that the best, most innovative games continue to be made for Xbox 360. |

Rock Band Network lets users set prices anywhere from 99 cents to $2.99 a song. The company retains 70% of the sale price, with the rest going to the user. |

Well, the user definitely isn't the person buying the DLC. So I just assumed that it was the user of the XNA account (which would be the artist/author). WSJ might have it fucking backwards though, based on what flashburn posted.

That really doesn't make sense either unless they were talking about a specific company. Each company can set (and is) different ways to pay artists/labels.

So here's 4 more songs announced for RBN:
"Push Push (Lady Lightning)" "Swallow The Razor" "Blood Red Rock" "Revolution" If you can't guess, it's Bang Camaro |
Re: Rock Band Thread - This thread was made for Rockin, and that's just what it'll do
Expensive day for me. Bought the second Petty, the second Nirvana, the only McCartney and the most recent (fourth?) Foo Fighters pack. This is what happens when I stockpile points and XBLA gives me NOTHIN' worth buying.

Re: Rock Band Thread - This thread was made for Rockin, and that's just what it'll do
Umphrey's McGee is scheduled to launch several songs for the brand new Rock Band Network platform upon its release early this year. This new system will allow fans of the band to dig into the music in ways they have never been able to before. Umphrey’s McGee has been working with former Harmonix Music Systems employee Andrew Buch, an alumni of Berklee College of Music, to author several songs for the program, including “1348” and “Miss Tinkles Overture." Andrew, whose claims-to-fame include the underground release of his mind-numbingly difficult "Trippolette" in the original Guitar Hero, has worked on several games in the Guitar Hero and Rock Band franchises and was a likely choice to prepare the music of Umphrey's McGee for the game. More of his work can be found at www.andrewbuch.com, including video footage of both Umphrey's McGee's music and the Rock Band network re-release of "Trippolette." Songs will be available to purchase on the Xbox 360 within the next few months, upon public release of the Rock Band Network. For the full story of the Rock band Network, visit Billboard.com and mashable.com. For further information please visit The Rock Band Network. Here's the demo video of 1348 and Miss Tinkles Overture from Andrew Buch's website |
