Re: Heavy Rain -The Official Thread (Launches 2/23/10)
Indigo Prophecy didn't set any sales records and Heavy Rain was still made wasn't it?
|
Re: Heavy Rain -The Official Thread (Launches 2/23/10)
Yeah but it definitely made the period after finishing Indigo til HR's announcement a bit tense.
Ok, not really . |

Well thought-out, but spoiler-free review from Joystiq. It's very positive and sounds like the choices that the developer went with were the right ones. I'm lookihng more forward to this now.

Embargo must be off now.
IGN gives it a 9.0 in their self-proclaimed spoiler-free review.
Heavy Rain at IGN.com
Closing Comments Heavy Rain is a hell of an experience. Its controversial control scheme actually works really well in allowing the fantastic story to dictate how events play out, and many of the game's scenes will keep you on the edge of your seat. It starts slow and the presentation isn't perfect, but the character development, dialog and story twists will hook you like few games can. Heavy Rain is not to be missed. IGN Ratings for Heavy Rain (PS3) 9.0 Presentation Fantastic story that's one of the best in gaming. Stellar dialog as well. Some of the line delivery sounds a little odd, however. 8.5 Graphics The characters look great, but some low-res items in the environment make some scenes look a little disjointed. Animation is good overall, but a little spotty at times. 8.5 Sound Some voice actors let their native tongue slip through so line delivery isn't perfect, but it's quite good overall. The soundtrack is great. 9.0 Gameplay For a game that's so heavily focused on presentation, the gameplay does a great job of giving you control while not getting in the way. Some great action scenes and intense moments top it off. 8.0 Lasting Appeal One playthrough won't take you all that long (eight hours maybe), but you have lots of reasons to go back and try new stuff. Experimentation is rewarded well. 9.0 Outstanding OVERALL (out of 10 / not an average) |

It has a nice review from Kotaku too.

Re: Heavy Rain -The Official Thread (Launches 2/23/10)
This game looks very much like a more developed version of Still Life, which is one of my all-time favorites. I'm defintely picking this up!

GamesRadar are split on the game.
Tread carefully if you're particularly sensitive to spoilers though. We've tried to avoid them, but there are one or two unavoidable plot points touched upon within. http://www.gamesradar.com/ps3/heavy-...51716470918010 |
Re: Heavy Rain -The Official Thread (Launches 2/23/10)
The more I read about this, the less interesting it seems. The game's marketed as being completely innovative, but the only true point of originality seems to be that the entire thing is quick time events. The graphics are pretty, but so are other games. It would also appear that other games have had better plots, writing and voice acting, all of which seem like they'd be incredibly important to making this the revolutionary experience a lot of people are expecting. Granted, I'm only basing that off the demo, some online videos and a handful of reviews. The ability to have different actions open up or close off different avenues of the story is still somewhat in its early stages, I guess, but it's definitely not anything groundbreakingly new. As far as immersion, based on the demo, I'd say the game really needed another level of polish to get to what they're shooting for. If the hype around here stays high after the release, I'll probably pick it up when it hits the $30 point somewhere, but I'm honestly expecting a lot of letdown for people.

Fahrenheit built up so much potential only to squander it in the final 33% where it turned into what felt like a cheap knockoff of Dark City. In terms of being revolutionary, I think only the most hyped of people believed that. This looks like more of Indigo Prophecy, which was addictive in a character/storyline way and in almost no other way (super easy, albeit occasionally cumbersome, gameplay didn't help) so at least I know what to expect. |

6/10 from Gamekult (CNET France). http://www.gamekult.com/tout/jeux/fi...7616_test.html
I know I'm gonna play this but it's not a day one purchase. After tinkering with the demo ("huh, a dead cat"), it's nothing I can't wait 'til it hits the bargain bin. |
Re: Heavy Rain -The Official Thread (Launches 2/23/10)
My only worry is that after getting used to the mostly fantastic pros that did the voice work in Mass Effect 2, I might be really let down by the amateurs that voiced Heavy Rain.

Re: Heavy Rain -The Official Thread (Launches 2/23/10)
Never played Mass Effect. Is it a shooter or like Fallout 3?
|
Re: Heavy Rain -The Official Thread (Launches 2/23/10)
It's more like Fallout 3. It's not a first person shooter, but there is a lot of third person shootouts and a lot of exploring to do.

Even with some high reviews I am still going to wait for a drop on this. No rush to get this game

The action segments of the game are a lot like Gears of War, with some "Force" powers thrown in, and the rest of the game is driven by the story and character interactions and dialog-trees.

My question was regarding Mass Effect.
