So I bought a 250 GB Xbox Kinect bundle to upgrade my launch 360. I have the new Xbox in the living room, and plan on putting the old Xbox in my bedroom. I was wondering if it was possible to store my gamertag USB flash drive so that I wouldn't have to constantly recover my gamertag from the internet.

Yes, that's the way I, and several more here, have it. Pretty simple and the best solution.

I guess it's too much to ask of Microsoft to come up with a networking solution for gamertags, xbla games and DLC. Store it all on one system but still be able to play any of it on another console in the same house.

Thanks. I knew that people had stored their gamertags on the older MUs, but since the new Xbox doesn't have that, I wasn't sure if a standard USB drive would work.

Just my luck. I go to play a little rock band before bed. My system doesn't recognize that the disc is in the system. So, I open and close the drive. It shows a brief reading disc message then goes to an open tray message like no disc is in it.

So. I boxed it all up and grabbed my receipt and best buy service plan. I will go to the store tomorrow and get my money back. The nice thing is I paid $399 for the 120gb elite in march 09. Now the new slim 250 gb is $299. So $100 cheaper which will pay for a new service plan and maybe a game. Good thing the new dashboard is live. When I was in beta for it, it was tied to my console id.

What a hassle. Hopefully they won't give me any issues at the store. And I have to figure out how to transfer all my content from my 120 gb drive to the internal 250gb drive. I don't want to have to download it all again then go through the license transfer hassle.

Sigh. This will be my 4th, I believe, system.

Start getting all your saves off of it now. Sounds like you won't be able to have both hard drives at once to do a full transfer. Downloading from history isn't that big of a deal. Just have the xbox on and on the "Active Downloads" page, and just click through history adding everything.

IIRC, the download queue maxes out at around 20-30 items and you're likely to hit that limit as something big is the current download. Keeping it on the "Active Downloads" page means it will pick up the new items you added via xbox.com automatically as it refreshes after each download.

I do have a transfer cable kit from a previous system when I had a 20 gig pro 360 and it died and I went to a 120 gig Elite model.
From what I read on line, the transfer cable will work from the 120 gig drive to the new 250 gig drive. So that makes me happy.

I really wasn't looking forward to having to redownload everything.

Then, once everything is transferred to the new 250 gig drive, I have to go through making it my default console for downloads and do the license transfer thing.

So you're going to buy the new one before you verify you'll get your money back on the old one?

No.. My plan today is to take my system with the receipt and service plan info that I got back in March 2009.
They will/should refund the cost I paid at that time $399 + tax.
Then I take that money and buy a new Slim 250 gig 360 $299 + new service plan.
Whatever money is left over will go to a game. $100 difference - cost of service plan = $ towards game.

Then, at home tonight, I'll use my transfer cable kit and transfer stuff from my old hard drive to the new one. I'm keeping the hard drive from my currently dead system. Best Buy will either not care, or they will have be bring it in when I am done. I'm not sure what way they go.

Hope so, and that's how it worked for me when I needed a new system in January 2009, but I was talking with my BB-manager friend about this when the Slims came out, and he said they've changed it around and they don't do it this way anymore. I forget exactly what it was he said they do now, but I think it involved actually sending the old unit to their PRP center or something, before issuing any refunds or store credit. Hope I'm wrong about this and it works out for you, though.

Or they look in the box, realize the system's incomplete and refuse to refund it until you bring it in. They always checked when I returned my old Xbox system (twice) to make sure that the controller was in the box.

Mine did that last night too with RB3.

I tried other games, they read no problem - only RB had the issue. What I ended up doing was leaving the disc in, powering off, then back on and it read it no problem.

I thought this was always BB's policy... I don't remember every hearing someone just get to pick a new console and get the price drop ,I thought they always try to fix it (which means no Xbox in the meantime) or drop a refurbished one on you. I thought this is why Costco's return policy was so revered.

Maybe it was, I don't know. But when my old 360 bricked with the E-74 error, I took it back to BB and they gave me store credit for the original purchase price, right there on the spot. Got a new 360, which I think was $100 cheaper by then, and with the difference got a bunch of Microsoft points too. Error on their part or just an old store policy, I don't know, but either way it was a great deal. I was disappointed to find out I wouldn't be able to do that with a slim model.

Anyone with a Kinect tell me how long the cord is? My 360 is a good distance from where the top of the tv is and I don't want a big hassle reaarranging things.

Same for the Move if anyone knows the Eye camera's cord length. Thanks.

I don't have it in front of me, but if either is too short, why not just get a usb extender? The only problem would be if you have an old xbox and need to plug the kinect in...

Old xbox uses USB. New sexbox uses, I believe, an IEEE-1394 (Firewire) connection though it could be proprietary.

BTW, I just love how Microsoft ruined Xbox.com with all the Silverlight shit. Takes 14 minutes to load my friend list and I can't use it on the iPhone anymore. I'm sure that's no coincidence #WP7.

The site runs fine for me.

My dashboard/game list on the actual machine.. on the other hand, seems to get slower by the day.

It took 18 seconds just to load the friend list. Just watching that circle rotate. Granted I'm on my corporate vpn, but nothing else is that slow.

I can' t ever get the login to work in Chrome. So it's not just pinata. Gotta boot up IE just to buy stuff off the marketplace.

I've had the same issue in Firefox for quite a while, even before the site redesign. Have to switch to IE to do marketplace stuff. It used to work without problems, though.

Chrome works fine for me too. But as an alternative, you can just get the IE Tab extension for Chrome rather than having to load IE.

My XBox is on its way, but we'll be keeping it under wraps until Christmas. But in anticipation, I'm wondering:
1. What's the best place to track your achievements, stats, etc? I see a few people here have a 360voice tag. Is that the best?
2. What's the best forum that focuses on xbox info and games? I found http://www.xbox360achievements.org and it looks very active, but are there better ones out there? A google search yields way too many results.
3. Can I get my gamer tag now even though I haven't set up my 360 yet?

TrueAchievements is the best for tracking achievements since it's automatic. x360a.org is ok, but the lists are manual. They both have great guides and communities (TA is better though). Together, they cover everything.

360voice is pointless. If you're interested in tracking game time played, try raptr.com instead.

I think you can get your gamer tag now through xbox.com.
