How did you guess progress through the game? Did you do 1-2 or start on 2-1? I've heard some found it easier to do the first level of each world first.
I believe I did 2-1, then 3-1, and farmed 3-1 a bit. Then went back to 1-2, and then 1-3? After that, get through 4-1, so you can do 4-2, where you can grind a reaper using a bow for some quick farming.

once you are able to grind 4-2 (4-6k souls in less than 60s if you kill the first manta), the loss of souls does not seem so bad.

I beat that level for the first time today. It took me two years but I did it!

I wish I had a PS3 just to play this game. If I asked for one, my wife would probably die of laughter.

Atlus keeps fun alive by extending Demon's Souls' servers

Demon's Souls' servers were all set to go to sleep on May 31st, 2012, but Atlus has just informed us today that the said servers are going to be extended "for the foreseeable future". For those of you who aren't familiar with the game, Demon's Souls basically allowed you to play online with other players, not only for PVP purposes, but for coop play as well (both directly and indirectly, through in-game "notes" and tips left by other players).

Atlus' Tim Pivnicny, VP of Marketing and Sales, had this to say: "While it originally seemed as though it would be unfeasible for us to continue to sustain the servers, a number of developments have made it possible for us to continue to invest in and support our fans as they have continued to invest in and support us and Demon's Souls."

The Souls series are two of my favorite games of all time, so it's nice to see good things on the horizon for From Software. Between this news, Dark Souls' solid sales numbers, and an upcoming PC port, the prospect of a third Souls game seems to be in the cards.

Bump this as Sony announce the remake coming to the PS5. Look like I going to have to save my money for one. Loved this game.

re: Demon's Souls (Original: PS3/Remake: PS5)

This still might be my favorite Souls game ever. So many good memories of it. The Tower of Latria is one of the finest video game levels I've ever played, looking forward to revisiting it in HD.

I know it's customary to just give a game a graphics overhaul and re-release it, but it'd be nice if they started releasing remasters with expanded content so that there's at least some new stuff that we haven't experienced yet. They could add another world from the Nexus for this one, for example.

Supposedly they are adding some cut content from the original. And in addition to being a full on remake, it is supposed to be a reimagining as well.

It would have to be a new experience somehow or a tech marvel that needs to be seen for me to pick it up again. I put well over 200 hours into the original.

I never played it but loved Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3. I actually own the disc and was going to toss it in via emulation soon but may just wait.

Finished the remake over the weekend. I've tried many "Soulsbourne" games over the years, but I usually quit early in frustration. This is the first one that "clicked" for me. Next up: Bloodborne.

Enjoy. BB is a bit of a different beast since there's no shields/blocking. It took me a bit to transition from a Souls game to BB the first time.

Despite my love of Souls, I could not get into BB or Sekiro. I just can't go without a shield.
The Demon's Souls remake was amazing.

re: Demon's Souls (Original: PS3/Remake: PS5)

Working through this now. The game looks amazing. I started my From Software journey with dark souls....so i actually never played demon souls.

Having finished Dark Souls 1-3, Bloodborne and recently Sekiro I think maybe this game is a slight bit easier? Even though its still hard as hell. Also, having just come from Sekiro, the inability to jump is maddening.

EDIT: games like this really make you appreciate the super fast PS5 load times since you die more than a lot.

re: Demon's Souls (Original: PS3/Remake: PS5)

I found Demon's Souls much harder than Dark Souls. I don't find Dark Souls all that hard at all actually, but this one was pretty tough. It took me at least 30 ties to beat those fucking Maneaters and I am still amazed that I never once threw my controller after all the cheap deaths during that fight. I ultimately figured out a way to cheese my way out of it,

re: Demon's Souls (Original: PS3/Remake: PS5)

encounter my first bug I assume. Tried internet searching but nobody else seems to have suffered it.

In world 3-1, the tower of latria, I defeated the boss and nothing happened. no "demon vanquished", no body restored, nothing. So I exited the fog and went back in and had to do the fight again. Of course I lost since I used most of my leaves the first time.

Had to walk away from the game and then will have to soul harvest to afford more healing before I try again. This game is hard enough without having to fight bosses back to back.

EDIT: after more searching, not a bug. You have to kill the glowing NPC guy in the tower who says he is a nice dude and didn't try to hurt me but keeps bringing her back to life. In the age before the internet, I would have quit the game here thinking it was a bug.

Okay, this game is going on the shelf for a while. The Depraved Chasm is insane. You fall and die through every single crack or bridge and then have to start all the way over since there are no save points or shortcuts. You can't NOT fall.
All the -2 worlds provide an exponential increase in difficulty too.

I take back what I said about it being easier than bloodborne/dark souls/sekiro.

The thief's ring makes that level a lot easier. Without it all those little dudes will aggro you from across the map.

thanks, i'll give that a shot. Right now I have on the ring that gives you extra health in soul form and the ring that slowly regenerates health.

Re: Demon's Souls (Original: PS3/Remake: PS5)

I was really enjoying this game until Maneater, and he (they) are just kicking my ass all over the place. Once I was able to kill one and get the other down to literally one hit, but got I greedy and paid for it. That was last weekend and I haven't had a chance to play again until today, and it seems like I've lost just about all patience/motivation to keep banging my head against it. I've tried to cheese it, with limited success, but now I'm also running into the squid head phantom on the steps leading to the boss.

The thought of grinding other areas for more souls is pretty unappealing, since I need like 25k/level now. I do have some boss souls that I'm not going to use for anything that I could consume, but even still, I don't know if it'd be enough to level me that much at the end of the day.
