Re: Buying M rated games for Minors?
I think part of the point is there is no law to prevent them to from selling to minors, so there is no reason that they need to see you're ID let alone scan it in. I wonder if these stores will actually eventually get sued over these policies. Heck these policies are why I quit going to Gamestop, among some of their other practices. I'd go in and buy a few games every other week or so, and I didn't like the idea of their employees even seeing my address knowing how much I spent there, probably doesn't help that I heard one of them talking to the other about the time they spent in jail. My feeling was there was no reason for them to see an ID unless I was paying by check. I wasn't I was using cash every time, only place I try to use credit cards if ordering online.

I highly doubt that without an explicit opt in that Target is tracking any personally identifiable information from scanning your ID. The backlash on something like that could be huge, both legally and with consumers. And major corporations have never been known to mishandle sensitive information. ;) Again, I ask, why do they even need to scan an I.D.? Because they can't expect their cashiers to subtract? Would you hire someone to handle cash that is unable to do extremely simple math? |

Re: Buying M rated games for Minors?
I'll add that the customer should not have to turn over their personal ID to be scanned. It doesn't matter how innocent it seems or what they are using the data for its MY personal information. If they want to do this it should be optional and not forced.
If your employees are so incompetent that they either cannot read and input data properly or are committing acts of fraud, then why it this burden now shifting to the me the customer to clean up your businesses lack practice? Should I bring my own tools to the garage now for them to use in fixing my car because the mechanic is too stupid to read metric or that he may steal the garage's tools? Its nonsense. There is no justifiable reason I can see for me to hand over my license to make a simple retail transaction for Target to simply boost their data entry metrics or fraud patrol. |

If you want booze at the Minneapolis Convention Center, they swipe your id and print out a bracelet for you to wear that has your name on it. After the swipe, does that information go away? Or does the venue (city?) now have a record of people who like to drink? Hmm...

Sounds like an "invasion of privacy" that would be worth it.
