How would you feel if other companies compiled discs like GOW 1&2?
Well apparently kotaku decided to ask some publishers if they have any plans to take advantage of this
http://kotaku.com/5350600/asking-pub...u+ray-releases
Imagine MGS, MGS2, MGS 3 and Snake Eater on a bluray. Or Silent hill 1, 2, 3, and 4 on bluray. I personally would buy both at the 60 dollar premium. Wouldn't even need it to come at 40 bucks like GOW is.

We touched on this in a dreamy way yesterday, but today, let's look at it a little more seriously: now that God Of War 1 & 2 are being re-released on Blu-Ray, can we expect other series to follow suit?
After all, there are plenty of popular PS2 games/series that - provided they were upgraded visually and included a few bonus features - people would be willing to spend money on. And not all those games/series are published by Sony. So we asked around, to see if the God of War announcement had lit a fire under any other publishers.
"We are constantly exploring unique ways to expose players to some of our legacy titles such as Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill", a Konami representative told us. "Re-releasing games on Blu-ray presents an exciting opportunity for a publisher, however we have no announcements at this time".
"I don't want anyone reading this the wrong way (as I'm not saying anything like this could happen) but I'm seeing some interested for DMC to get this treatment", said Capcom's Christian Svensson, posting on the company's Unity forums. "Are there other titles you'd like see go this way? I'm looking for some temperature readings".
"We're always looking at new ways of getting content on PS3", Sony's Patrick Seybold told us, "but as of now, [God of War] is the only one planned."
Square Enix, sadly, refused to offer comment.
So, as you can see, no outright confirmation that similar projects are in the pipeline elsewhere (or indeed at Sony for other series), but definitely some encouraging words. You can bet somebody, somewhere is looking at the God of War collection and imagining something similar for Silent Hill, or Metal Gear Solid, or even Onimusha.
Movie fans love the Criterion Collection because it takes old movies and breathes new life into them; it's about time video game fans were given something similar.

so long as they are careful about "improving" them for the new systems, I'm all for it.

How about making the PS3 and Xbox fully backwards-compatible in the first place, and in the case of the PS3 - don't remove the option from the console in later builds?

As long as they are like the $40 GOW and not the $30 GBA ports, I am good with it.

I'd love Ico/Shadow of the Colossus and a Katamari collection of all the PS2 discs. I don't even need upgrades. I'd just like to be able to play them again on my state of the art non-backwards compatable PS3.

Like Groucho said, they improved the games greatly, not just with improved graphics, but new art work, backgrounds and more - I can't even touch the 8-bit version after playing this. Probably still the best compilation package ever made - I have the one that includes Mario World and I still play it regularly.

I'll even throw in the Prince of Persia trilogy on the last gen systems, if only to have Sands of Time again. Never got around to the other 2.

I'm all for it, but for me the appeal is more about upping the resolution and have it running with less slowdown/faster frame rate. It's just like getting a PC upgrade and having your games run better because of it. I don't care that much about the compilation aspect.

I'm still curious if there's any actual improvement to God of War past upscaling (which OG PS3s already do).

John Hight: Well, I don't necessary agree with just the terminology "port", but given those two limited options, then we'd have to put it in the "port" category. We haven't developed general purpose code that would now work for every PS2 title out there. Basically what we wanted to do was we wanted to remaster [the games], and we've done a lot of things to not only have it run on the PS3 but also make it look better, perform smoother and have a little bit extra functionality.
IGN: What we understand about the port, for lack of a better word, is that it's now at 720p, it runs at 60 frames-per-second, it's got anti-aliasing going on...
John Hight: 2X anti-aliasing...

I don't know why anyone would vote "No" on this. If it doesn't appeal to you, just don't buy it. Why would you actively campaign against it?
There are several I would like to see, Resident Evil, Sly Cooper, Ratchet, Kain...

I would take an upgraded San Andreas anyday. I'd love to go back and visit but I would like for the experience to be 2009 and not 2004.

Unfortunately, the 8-bit NES ones.
You can compare the two version here (the sound is a huge improvement too)

I'd love to see the SSX, R&C, Burnout and Splashdown series.

The good news is that Katamari Forever is coming out in just a couple of weeks for PS3. Not an outright compilation, but it'll have several levels- some old, some new for the game.

It would be nice to see a MGS collection that had the best versions of the MGS series with all the extra goodies from those sets (including the ultra-rare 3-hour+ cinematic DVD of MGS3).
