Saw this over at Blu-Ray.com.

For those that recall the God of War survey conducted earlier this year, an overwhelming amount of the community suggested the PlayStation 2 experiences of Kratos be brought forth to the PlayStation 3.

Thanks to your feedback, we are excited to announce the God of War Collection for this Holiday Season. Now fans and newcomers to the series can experience the epic journey of God of War and God of War II in 720p HD form. Both titles have been remastered with anti-aliased graphics, running at 60 frames per second for a smooth gameplay experience, only on the PS3 system. Additionally, the Blu-ray Disc compilation will bring the PlayStation Network (PSN) trophy support to the franchise for the very first time.

This is your chance to experience God of War is its true form before the chaos of God of War III hits store shelves come March 2010.

Genre: Action-Adventure
Players: Single-Player
Extras: Trophies
Rating: Mature

Released on Blu-ray Disc: Holiday 2009 ($39.99)

Developed exclusively for the PlayStation®3 (PS3™) system, God of War®Collection features reworked versions of both God of War® and God of War®II on a single Blu-ray Disc™ at full 1280 x 720 resolution. Both critically acclaimed games, which were originally developed for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, have been remastered with anti-aliased graphics running at 60 frames per second for a smooth gameplay experience on the PS3 system. Additionally, the Blu-ray Disc compilation will bring PlayStation®Network (PSN) trophy support to the franchise for the first time (included for both games).

The God of War series brings epic mythological battles to life with stunning graphics and an elaborate plot that puts Kratos, the triology’s main character, at the center of carnage and destruction as he seeks revenge against the Gods who have betrayed him. God of War®III is scheduled for release exclusively on the PS3 in March 2010.

God of War Storyline

Set in the dark world of ancient Greek mythology, players take on the role of Kratos, a Spartan warrior. Plagued by the nightmares of his past, the ash covered warrior would do anything to be free of his debt to the Gods and the memories that haunt him. For ten years he has labored for Olympus, now on the verge of losing all hope, the Gods have given him one last task. Destroy Ares, the God of War. Armed with the deadly chained Blades of Chaos, Kratos will have to overcome armies of mythological monsters, legions of undead soldiers, and amazingly dangerous and brutal landscapes.

God of War II Storyline

God of War saw Kratos, a mortal warrior, set upon an epic quest to dethrone a God. But his journey did not end there. In God of War II, Kratos sits atop his Olympus throne, as the new God of War – far more ruthless than Ares ever was. To end his continued torment, Kratos must journey to the far reaches of the earth and defeat untold horrors and alter that which no mortal, or god has ever changed… his fate. God of War II sets an epic stage for a devastating mythological war to end all wars.

I saw this over in the PS3 sticky thread... when I posted it.

But hey, perhaps a thread of its own is warranted.

That's what I get for not checking the PS3 sticky thread too often.

This sounds more like a port than a remake. [/technicality]

I agree. It's a port with enhancements.

Yeah, and barely that (just trophies I think). Well, I'd wait until they show screenshots to be sure. From the press release it SOUNDS like they're just upscaling the PS2 games (as if you were playing them on a BC PS3) but it's not really 100% clear either.

It'll be interesting to see if they do with with other titles, maybe an ICO and SotC combo before The Last Guardian?

Port/remake, potato/tomato.

What's important is that it isn't PS2 software emulated. It's the final nail in the hopes and dreams that we'll see any sort of native PS2 support on the PS3 for the foreseeable future.

Re: God of War I/II remake for PS3

They should have included the God of War PSP game to make it a complete anthology. Tempted to bite on this if the enhancements are really good.

I think so. I don't yet have a PS3 and therefore never go into the corresponding thread, but am strongly-leaning toward getting one for God of War 3, and as such would also be interested in this remake or port or whatever it is.

So I, for one, welcome our new God of War thread.

Spoiler:

Re: God of War I/II remake for PS3

Awesome news. 1 and 2 looked amazing even on my component PS2 connection, so if it's even just that level I'll be ok. (Not to mention I never bought 1 or 2, so this will be no question for me regardless.)

I'd love for a release like this to happen for Ico/Shadow of the Colossus prior to the new Team Ico game release as well.

Awesome news indeed! I just re-played GOW II on last week. Definately a day one purchase for me.

I'll buy this. I've heard great things about the previous games, but never played them.

I'll put this in the pile with Uncharted as "Games which are really tempting me to buy a PS3 even though I don't have time to play everything I want to play on the systems I already own."

These will be mine. For a MSRP of 40 bucks, it is worth every penny.

I'll grab it when it's $20 or under. Hopefully there will be a deal around the time GOW 3 comes out.

Yeah, these games are really some of the most fun I've ever had. I never did get to finish 2 because my ps2 would always crash at a certain point, even with different copies

You would be doing yourself a disservice by waiting, seriously.
