I played the demo and loved it. I liked how they switched from game to cinema smoothly. I kinda hated the fact that theres not much dialogue in game, but than it gave it a real symphony feel that I kinda dug. Really want this game now

My review of Castlevania: LOS - http://goo.gl/PmZ6
To me it felt like Konami's version of God of War, all the way down to the green health fountains and the simplistic puzzles.

Re: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (360, PS3 - Q4 2010)

It's definitely better than Dante's Inferno (which is the game it's most similar to) and a lot better than the annoying Darksiders (which was more like a Zelda clone), which I couldn't bring myself to finish - not because it was hard, but because it was a boring chore. It's a toss up with Bayonetta. Bayonetta was more action-oriented, focusing more on fighting than anything else. LoS has some more puzzles and not as many crazy fights, and it takes a while to get going, but I'd put it on the same caliber of quality as Bayonetta - unlike the other two games, they're both very re-playable.

Darksiders definitely felt more tedious but I kept going. Just finished Chapter 4 on this and liking it a lot. The visuals are just stunning.

Just finished the game... loved the ending. What did Kojima and co. do for this game, anyway? The storyline?

The first real "non-Shadows-of-Colossus" boss was the hardest of the game (IMHO), mainly because you don't have much magic and life and techniques and side weapons at that point. Also, let me just say that I hate one-hit-kills, especially when there's no indication that one hit will kill you. I also hate the

Also, Picard's love-filled narratives begin to get a little creepy maybe half-way through the game.

Yeah, there was one where he said something along the lines of "Gabriel had come long and hard, facing a stiff challenge."

Re: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (360, PS3 - Q4 2010)

OK I need some help because I don't know what the hell I am doing wrong,

Spoiler:

I'm in Chapter 5 at the Wygol Village fighting off the ghouls after which you need to pull the statue to cover the hole. So I grapple it and then hit triangle to ask Zobek for help. I keep holding R2, but every time he goes around to push, I disengage all of a sudden and he just runs back around to me. This has to be something simple and stupid but I've killed 60 ghous and I keep trying to no avail. Please help!

EDIT: Never mind figured it out,. Apparently you have to let go R2 and then wait for prompts. Bad controls here considering you're usually supposed to hold onto R2 for stuff like this.

Yeah, there's a similar part later on in the Clocktower level where you'll have to let go of the grab button instead of holding it down as usual. Drove me nuts until I figured it out.

I started this game today and I honestly don't know if I like it or not. I'm only a few hours in so I'll keep going to see if it gets better.

And, Goddamit, I really thought we were through with fixed cameras. I can't remember the last game I played that had one. Bleh.

Gorgeous game, though.

It does, big time - trust me!

Not too many people complained about God of War 3's fixed cameras.

Re: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (360, PS3 - Q4 2010)

I'm just at the beginning of chapter 6 with the maze but honestly I might have to set this aside for a bit after Tuesday with RB3 and Force Unleashed II coming out. I have to spend my obligatory first week of profuse RB3 play and I know FUII will be a quick game.

I still definitely want to finish this though. I wasn't sure at first but it's worth now I can see. I'm just cringing at how much harder it will potentially get.

I'm playing on normal and doubt I'll go back and play it on a harder difficulty (which I usually do with games). I love the game but I'm not an action game guy. Memorizing blocks, patterns, and 100 different moves just isn't in me. My button mashing is good enough to have fun and hopefully get me through normal. I just finished Chapter 5 yesterday myself.

Re: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (360, PS3 - Q4 2010)

Finally finished this over the holiday break. Some truly epic stuff going on in the game. There are definitely some frustrating camera/control/lack of information issues (at least if you come back after being away for awhile) but the game is absolutely beautiful and quite an amazing ride. I was kind of "meh" on the ending, but then the epilogue rolled around and.....wow.

I effing loved that level. Thought it was brilliant.

Re: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (360, PS3 - Q4 2010)

I finished it yesterday as well. Felt pretty much the same. Amazing game with some frustrating camera work. I loved the ending, truly epic, even before the epilogue even though I saw a couple of the twists coming. Spent a couple hours going back for collectibles, not sure if I'll finish doing that. The game is pretty fucking stingy with the achievement points.

Camera aside, my biggest complaint would be length. I don't think I've ever complained about a long game before, but they could have easily lopped 5 hours off this sucker and had a much tighter experience, especially given how much replay they have here in trying to find things, unlock all the moves, etc.

Great game, not sure if I'll be down for the DLC when it hits or not.

Especially considering how long it is.

I didn't mind the length, but it's absolutely crazy how much is crammed into this game and how under the radar it seems to have gone since it's release. I did have the urge to run back through it again as soon as I finished. I'm sure being leveled up ability wise and skipping cutscenes would take out a lot of time in the first half of the game.

Re: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (360, PS3 - Q4 2010)

Well, the length argument is mostly because I'm not an avid action gamer. I like them, but I don't have the mental dexterity to memorize all the combos and maximize them with blocks, dodges, etc. I'm a button masher, so an action game for me wears out it's welcome around 10 hours in. 15-20+ hours of button mashing is a bit much, which is part of the reason it took me so long to finish (that and Reach challenges come calling first every day )

If only it were easier to skip them.

Also..I don't know if it's been talked about before on here, but the score for this game is fucking amazing. I can't believe how much it added to the experience.

Re: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (360, PS3 - Q4 2010)

Unlike so many of you all who have played this, I am pretty damn slow by comparison. But I finally finished the game over the holidays. I think this is THE Castlevania I've been waiting for, ever since I started playing the original since I was a kid. This was just a plain fun game. I think I enjoyed this more than the obvious comparison game of God of War III, which I enjoyed the hell out of. I think the love for this franchise and playing just about every game had me more invested. From the story, to the play (except the DAMN annoying camera angles which killed me way too many times, and that music box level), to the great soundtrack, all of it was great fun.

I also read this tidbit on neoseeker.com - looks like we get more gameplay via some DLC packs coming in February and April.

" Things were left pretty open at the end of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow so it's inevitable that Gabriel Belmont is being brought back to deal with some unfinished business. Two DLC packs launching in February and April 2011 see Gabriel deal with one more problem at the castle of the vampire dark lord and bring some closure to the story.

'Reverie' sees Gabriel heading back to the dark lord's castle to help out Laura, a former servant to the vampire queen Carmilla. Apparently Carmilla had kept some "unruly evil" in check but now that she's dead, this evil is now running rampant so it's up to Gabriel to destroy it.

'Resurrection' takes place after the ending to give players some insight into Gabriel's ultimate destiny. There's no rest for Gabriel here either as he must fight at his peak to take on a "notorious enemy".

Images from Revarie, one of the DLC packs. Second pack looks to be called Resurrection.
