I've still got Bayonetta and Darksiders from the last one just sitting here.

Check the Red Dead Redemption thread. That's where all the PS3 talk is these days

Pardon my imprecision. I was confused by that part on the link I provided where it says "File Size: 2 GB."

I know, I know. I was just clarifying the reality once it starts downloading.

Re: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (360, PS3 - Q4 2010)

Ran through it on my lunch break. It's only about a 30 minute demo which is crazy considering the 1.5GB file size.

Anyway, I liked it and definitely want to pick it up now. It feels like a lot of other games, but that's okay in my book since the other 3D Castlevanias failed to impress.

I just hope it's better than Dante's Inferno.

demo played well. very short. but looked fantastic. didn't like the lack of camera control though. wonder how game compares to Darksiders.

I rather enjoyed Dante's Inferno. I don't really get why it gets such a bad rap.

I will note however, I have never played a God of War game and have been told that might be a reason why I think DI isn't that bad.

I think that's why I loved Heavenly Sword so much when everyone else bagged on it. I have since played GoW1&2 and still like HS better.

It had some decent parts, but it felt really half-assed and incomplete; like a McDonald's hamburger compared to nice half-pound gourmet burger you'd get from a fancy restaurant, which would be God of War.

Might be? That is absolutely the reason, x1000.

The God of War series has made it completely impossible for any other game to come out in this genre to be enjoyable by the least bit. Because when you're playing another "hack and slash" you will say "god of war is better than this" LOL.

Made it through Chapter 1 today. Had fun with it but the
Spoiler:
Shadow of the Colossus
style battle at the end, while kind of a neat homage, was really kind of annoying.

Re: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (360, PS3 - Q4 2010)

I played through Chapter 1 too, and it took me a little while to get past that part as well. I like that each individual chapter is pretty short and can be played through separately, although having a chapter devoted to a single puzzle seems odd. Overall it still doesn't feel like Castlevania at all besides the Belmont name and the werewolves, but there's a long way to go. The character designs also seem a little... bland.

Patrick Stewart doing some voice-over work is just awesome...

Re: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (360, PS3 - Q4 2010)

I'm not really digging this. The God of War rip-off is disappointing, but I can deal with it. What I don't like are the extremely short levels and the fact that there is almost nothing to explore. It's like it was made for a person with ADD who can't sit still and play for more than ten minutes at a time.

While the visuals are amazing, the game forces you down a tight path that's about the size of an arm's reach. So the visuals are just window dressing since you can't really explore anything.

I also wish it was a horror game as opposed to this fantasy stuff. The werewolves are the only horror element I've encountered so far. Everything else had been trolls, goblins and other LOTR influenced creatures.

Finally, Stewart's voiceover is hilarious. You can tell he's just reading through this gibberish and couldn't care less what it means...and I don't blame him. How many times are they going to bring up "darkness" and "light"? It's a little embarrassing to listen to and a waste of great talent.

With that said, the score is really solid. For me, it's by far the best aspect of the game. But since I've only done the first chapter, maybe it will get better.

Re: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (360, PS3 - Q4 2010)

I'm enjoying the tighter and shorter levels. Frankly, I'm getting tired of the relentless need to pad games with big open levels just to make you waste time running around exploring them with no purpose. Not every game needs that.

I finished chapter 1. I think that colossus battle could have used a bit more play-testing. Holy fuck was that obnoxious and annoying as hell.

I played the demo tonight and just quit after the umpteenth quicktime event.

Terrible.

So how are the cutscenes in the game? When I first heard this was going to be a Kojima game I was worried that this would be the first Castlevania game with 30 minute cutscenes.

They aren't overly long, but there are a lot of them. I just wish there was an easier way to skip them than opening your scroll to bring up a 'skip scene' option.

Yep, like hitting the X button.
