NBA Live 10 vs NBA 2K10

Well, EA has released a promo video of Live 10.

<iframe src="http://www.xxlmag.com/online/wp-content/plugins/xxl_mp/embed-flash.php?vf=http://slamonline.com/video/08-13-09-NBA_CULTURE_SIZZLE.flv&if=undefined" width="430" height="345" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0"></iframe>

In the past several years, the 2k series has been better than what EA has released. EA apparently has learned that their product has become stale, so they hired one of the top producers of 2K to develop the Live series. Let's see what happens.

Cool. I haven't played a basketball game since my Super Nintendo days.

The answer to this question has been 2K ever since it debuted on Dreamcast. I don't see that changing this year.

At least one year the true answer was actually Inside Drive (2004, to be exact).

Then Inside Drive personnel moved to NBA 2k, which helped get that series headed back in the right direction.

Kobe Bryant is on the cover of 2K10, so that wins easily

Yeah, I am getting the 2k10 CE. It's $100, but it's Kobe, and some nice bonuses.

Oh and for any Kobe haters, I can't help but to feel like I am getting raped paying that price.

Authentic tattoos and shoes? Throwback jerseys? Good to see EA has their priorities straight.

Although I like the throwback jerseys feature, I cringed when I saw the authentic tattoos. WTF? Really? Who the fuck cares? We buy the game for the gameplay, not the fucking tattoos and shoes and all those other useless features.

Ouch. This is the first I heard of this, so I had to look it up. The VIP online lobby sounds like garbage, and I really hope there is a normal game case somewhere in that monstrocity of a locker. Still, I'm tempted, if only for the McFarlane figure, seeing as how I've never seen a Kobe figure at retail anywhere in Los Angeles.

The least they could do is give you a subscription to his website...

Re: NBA Live 10 vs NBA 2K10

Saw the video for Live 2010 and not really impressed. Except for a couple of years in early 2000, 2k Series have been the best for me. I find 2k9 as a huge leap in gameplay from 2k8 to 2k9, great simulation/online experience. I'm sure I'll buy 2K10 this year as well.
It will take a major leap in game play for me to get NBA Live this year.

I love the locker and that is the only reason I'm thinking of wasting an extra $40. No one ever accused me of being smart with my money. Don't care either way for the Kobe stuff.

Normally, I'd get NBA 2K10 even though Kobe is on the cover but...

Dammit.

Re: NBA Live 10 vs NBA 2K10

I don't see 2k10 losing this year. Live might be better in 2011 but they have a lot of catching up to do. I also preordered the nba2k10 CE... Wasn't too bad with the 50% off amazon coupon.

The biggest issue I have with NBA2K9 is how crappy the servers seem to be. They also need to show the other player's pings as I am tired of my 10 man ranked games not starting up due to network errors. You also get the wonderful 10 man game that start up but are nearly unplayable due to latency issues.

Re: NBA Live 10 vs NBA 2K10

I like playing 10 man too but there's just a lot of wait involved, and esp bad if game does not start for some reason. One other thing I would like is to be able to challenge for a game with the other guy knowing what team I'll be playing with. I've always been a fan of Lakers even when they weren't particularly good and play this team often, but a lot of people cancel games when you choose a specific team. So knowing your opponent's team beforehand would make the transition smoother.

Now where to get those 50% amazon coupons.....

Don't worry, if you really like that cover it'll be available for < 20 by this time next year...

I thought 2K9 was great, but I was going to sit out 2K10 since I barely had time to play 2K9. I'll have to see where the improvements are. Someday I'll be able to reliably resist buying these sports games on release...

I probably shouldn't have bought 2k10 as I'll never get around to playing anything else. Whenever I have free time I try to get a ranked team match in. I still need to open Halo 3 =/

Re: NBA Live 10 vs NBA 2K10

I don't know why, but I always end up picking up both. Love playing NBA games far more than Madden, NHL or MLB.

The feature that I have really liked on Live for the past few seasons is the Fiba International Tournament.

Question: How many minutes do you guys set your Quarters for? I usually go for 8 or 10. I rarely call timeslots and 12 minute quarters end up having ridiculous final scores.

Re: NBA Live 10 vs NBA 2K10

I usually play 8 minute quarters. One issue I have with NBA Live 09 is that in the Dynasty season, user controlled players, didn't get injured. Also the issue that you can't use any FIBA teams outside the Tournament is ridiculous.

Re: NBA Live 10 vs NBA 2K10

I do 8 min quarters as well, you get much more realistic scores that way. I used to get Live every year it came out until 06 I think and jumped to 2K and never looked back. I did get Live 09 as a rental just because 2K was all checked out. It was better then the last few years had been but 2K is leaps and bounds in front.

I usually do 8 or 10 minute quarters too. I bought 2k7 and 2k8, but sat out 2k9 so looking forward to the new one.
