Tips for Beating the Summer Game Drought!

After today, the game well runs dry, folks. After Call of Juarez, there will be no major releases except The Biggs and King of Fighters. Then Wolfenstein and Batman for August. Things won't get really pumping until September.

In other words, typical year for release schedule. Here are some tips to beat the heat inside and keep gaming:

1. Download Final Fantasy VII - 100 hour game should keep ya busy

2. Serious Sam HD on XBL - this game is going to look sweet ,and so much fun to play.

3. Punisher on PSN - could be a fun shooter, screenshots look pretty good.

4. Battlefield 1943 - rumored to come out in July. Let's hope. It will be fricking stupid to release this game in the winter when Call of Duty is out.

5. Get ready for Wolfenstein by Returning to Castle Wolfenstein. The game still hopes up really well today!

6. Check out Velvet Assassin - definitely worth a look if you like stealth games. The graphics are gorgerous, awesome lighting effects and quite challenging.

7. Check out Ninja Blade - looks fantastic, and has a style of its own. Must play if you love Ninja Gaiden.

8. Don't forget PC - PC gaming is making a nice comeback this year with Sims 3, Eleven Legacy. Arma 2 is a great looking shooter. Officers is another title coming out this summer.

And if all else fails....

You still got new Fallout 3 DLC, but with a GOTY version coming out in Oct, patience pays off.

Not sure why this is in the Bargains board, but I should add Shadow Complex should be out on XBLA soon - it's Epics new action game in the style of Metroid/Castlevania, and has potential to be my favorite game of the year.

Sorry guys, I was logged in the wrong forum when I posted this. If a mod can move it to video game talk, I would appreciate it.

I'll be busy catching up on my games...so no worries there. Staying 6-12 months behind saves a ton of cash.

I have purchased close to 80 PS3 games, plus about 20 PS2 games, in the past 6 months, most on clearance or sales ... my average cost is less than $15 per game.

I figure I am covered for about a decade, considering I only get a play a few hours every week.

Decent idea for a thread but would be more suited for the VG forum.

I'll add
9. Peggle on the iPhone or iTouch. Cheap and addicting as hell.

Drought my butt!

There have been so many good games released recently and many more in the past that I still have to play through... I am easily all set for awhile... and there are still more good games coming out all year long.

In the past two months (for me)
MLB The Show 09
UFC
Red Faction
Infamous
Prototype
Ghostbusters
Trivial Pursuit
Call of Juarez (today)

The only drought that has taken place is in my wallet.

NCAA 10 comes out in July, and you forgot Madden 10, in August.

Re: Tips for Beating the Summer Game Drought!

Seriously... there is no drought for me. My backlog of titles is HUGE. Too many games and not enough time = a whole lot of good stuff collecting dust waiting to be played! The more time without A+ releases means I can play through the B+ & A- games that have been overlooked. :) I could stop getting new games now and be set for the next few years probably.

Re: Tips for Beating the Summer Game Drought!

It's not a flood like around Thanksgiving or Christmas but there's still good stuff.
Me, I'm waiting for stuff on my Goozex request list to ship, and finishing up some titles that were either not so great (the B+ and A- ones) or some great titles that just got overshadowed.
And yes, though I have Fallout, I am waiting to buy the GOTY with all the DLC rather than buying it separately. Not sure i I'll start over or just continue my existing game.

Re: Tips for Beating the Summer Game Drought!

Drought? I wish. Without giving it much (or any) thought, I'm playing:

Tiger 10
Ghostbusters
Magic: The Gathering
GH:Smash Hits
Skate 2
Shaun White
Iron Maiden, Evanescense (sp?), and Foreigner RB tracks not played yet
Boggle
COD: Waw-Haven't played the last 2 map packs yet
Halo 3-Haven't played the last 2 map packs yet
Burnout paradise-Barely touched the island, haven't played Cops & robbers yet
NHL 09-Wanna play it before 2010 hits

That's all I can think of without getting up to look through my games, and I have plenty of backlog stuff to play:

Star Wars:FU
Lego Indy
Condemned 2
etc...

My tip for beating the summer game drought. Stop pretending like the only games to play are the ones that were released in the past couple months. Has anyone really already played through every good release from 2008? 2007? There are a ton of great games to be played, that are now much cheaper.

Exactly. Which makes it easier to pass on these summer titles since they are all games I wouldn't buy at full price. They all seem like 'good' games, just not 'gotta play it right now' games.

Well good for you, but many gamers crave a new gaming experience, and you can't deny that July and August are pretty barren for major releases.

I have a huge backlog as well, but I still get excited about new releases, and want more new releases. There are plenty of gamers who buy games on release date, play them ,and never look at them again.

You speak for "many gamers" yet you're the sole voice amongst these gamers claiming to suffer from a drought. ;)

Maybe it's not as common as you think?

I have games unopened, but it's not because I bought them at release and they just sat there. Nor do I only buy old releases. For example, Mass Effect CE is waiting for me after I finish Overlord II and I've recently finished Ghostbusters.

Also I don't know how you can say there's a summer drought when we haven't even got to the Summer of Arcade yet on XBLA.
