This is making me rethink my vote...a little.

I think RB2 should win, but more people will vote against RB2, as opposed to voting for SMB3.

Yep.
But it's "favorite", not "best", "most impact", "most classic", etc. Of the 2, RB2 is my favorite by far.

While that's true, that doesn't necessarily mean that people are voting based on those other criteria. The musical game genre in itself is less appealing to a lot of people and it's pretty easy to have no real taste for Rock Band while SMB3 has a broader appeal and something almost everyone has played.

A little over a day left to vote.

Went with Mario

I went with Rock Band. Mario is a great game, but other than the 3 years I lost to World of Warcraft, I have never played a game a much as Rock Band. Can't wait for the 12-pack of Maiden next week!

Well, since there has been about 10X the anti-RB2 talk than pro-Mario 3 talk, I'd say that's a fair statement. "heh"

I love Rock Band 2. It's very much the "Now" game though. I won't be playing Rock Band 2 20 years from now, but I still play SMB3. Gotta give the edge to SMB3.

A few more hours to vote.

And we have a winner. Thanks to everyone for their lists and voting.

Okay, voting for the game because of additional content that you pay for that doesn't come with the game and hasn't even come out yet is hardly fair. If you're gonna do that, it should be up against the whole Mario franchise, including Mario games that haven't come out yet.

Sure, Mario won, but people shouldn't be voting for RB2 based on content not included on the retail disc.

Even if there was no additional content for RB2, *I* would've still voted for it.

If there was DLC available for SMB3, I think it would be acceptable to factor that into the equation. Same could be said for Fallout 3 or Gears of War.

I don't know about you, but I factored in the e-reader card content of the GBA game into my decision.

A feature of the game is weekly DLC. I don't see how you could discount it. You aren't required to buy it, but it is a nice feature and a part of the game.

Thanks for the tourney orange. Kind of an anti-climactic ending though. It would be interesting to do it again eliminating Nintendo franchises in the nomination process.

That would just lead to a Rock Band 2 victory. I was trying to think of different "tournaments," but I couldn't come up with anything I think would be worthwhile.

As much as I would've loved RB2 to win the tourney, I wouldn't want to eliminate Nintendo franchises in order to do so. These are games and characters that people have grown up with over the years, and it's hard to compete with that.

Oh I get that, I was just tossing it out there because it would be interesting to see how things played out without 10 Marios, 5 Zeldas and 5 Metroids eating up 20 slots of a tourney.

Shagrath 06-03-09 07:31 AM

Re: Finals of the "favorite" videogame tournament.

Maybe just a franchise tourney? Although I could easily see Mario or Zelda picking up the win for that. Might play out a little differently, and have a little more variety as well.

Have we done a favorite Character tourney yet?

Rock Band doesn't have characters (notable ones anyways). Insta-fail! :)
