Seriously, that's got to be at least a top 5, if not top 3, blunder right there.... |
Re: Top 10 Blunders in Gaming
Would Microsoft's acquisition of Rare be considered a blunder? I would like to think that since what Rare has produced since being bought versus what they produced before would show that the quality output has gone south. |

Any FPS game that doesn't automatically refill your health. I'm too spoiled by great games that do it.

Re: Top 10 Blunders in Gaming
What about...
- Sixaxis controller being talked up before release, get put on the shelves for quite some time, then pulled off the market. The first game to use it extensively(Lair) was utter rubbish. Also, the non-removable recharchable battery gives the controllers a shelf life of about 3 years, after which the user will have to pay up to have the battery replaced. Oh, and the lack of charging cable with new controllers. - Backwards compatibility feature between different versions of the PS3. This feature was pushed big time pre release saying the PS3 would be 100% backwards compatible, while the Xbox 360 was not. Included in hardware for the initial US release, but only in software for some other releases around the world. Then it was completely dropped all together (Here in Australia anyway) cause Sony wants us to buy the games all over again as DLC even if we already own a copy. - PS3 without HD cables. The PS3 was touted as a HD device, with HD games and HD Blu-Ray movies, and HD menus and HD photos and HD music visualisations which would all look cool on your Sony HD TV. Except that it doesn't come with HD cables in the box, and it's just not made all that clear on the box for the average consumer whether you need one or not. At least include the component cables. Don't wanna sound like I'm flaming the PS3 or something, just some recent things I've noticed since I work in retail and sell consoles. Sony Computer Entertainment has started acting like a big greedy corporation ever since they figured the Xbox 360 would be a major competitor for them. They didn't seem as irrational when the PS2 was #1. |

This list sucks, but at least the pics posted are great

With the advance of 3D graphics, some dolts in a board room looked at the demographics and figured that guys would go gaga over video games featuring hot babes and not much else. The commercial for Dead or Alive Volleyball is still remembered as an embarrassment to the industry. And everyone just wants to forget The Guy Game ever existed. |

To counter balance, you could have mentioned one of the xbox360's major flubs this gen, including but not limited to: THE RED RING OF OMFG DEATH!!@#!, $100 20 gb harddrives, $100 usb wifi adapters. (I heart my 360 and use it way more than my PS3, but there are some obvious deficencies there. That said, yeah, Live still rocks and there are a dozen workarounds to both the hdd and wifi issues. But still, Red Ring? Microsoft, what the hell. Only they could find a way to port the BSOD to standalone hardware.)

Rare has been mentioned. Maybe, still in the air, NXE and specially avatars. |

Didn't Atari have the chance to bring the NES to America and passed? That would have to be considered.

Re: Top 10 Blunders in Gaming
Most of Atari's decisions from around 1981-present can be considered a giant blunder ;)

Re: Top 10 Blunders in Gaming
Aside from picking up Ghostbusters and Riddick that is.

But yeah, I've replaced my 360 twice and might have to do it again cause it's too loud. |

Apparently the OP thinks that the only way to purchase DLC is with a credit card....?
I'm disappointed the NeoGeo Pocket Color didn't take off as well here as in Asia - perfect joystick for fighting games (and such great games they were....) compared to the Gameboy (at the time - haven't tried anything after the Advance SP). Never even seen a WonderSwan (sp?) but apparently those had their moment as well. |
