yup I was definitely near the end. I finished the main quest last night. I started a new character last night...a female one . I think I am gonna be a little more cold blooded this time around. I started that way on my last character then changed to a good guy. I am gonna be a real b*tch I think.

its good to get a save point before your alienate entire factions. I have one that gives me options for 3 endings pretty close to the finish. Its hard to keep the legion & NCR both happy for long, but its pretty easy to string one of them along with the other 2 options.

What factions can you actually "join"? I think the only one I officially "joined" was the Brotherhood of Steel. I just seemed to help out other factions. I didn't do all of the quests so this question would have been answered probably.

by "join" I mean which you can follow to a specific ending. I don't think their is a Brotherhood ending. I'm aware of 4:

Spoiler:
NCR, Legion, Mr. House and Yes Man

I guess mine was the Yes Man ending. I had the robots waste all of the NCR at the end. The ending didn't mention anything about the Brotherhood, which seemed kind of weird since I was a member

I am kind of interested in joining the Legion this time around...where would I go to do that. I just remember them attacking me from the get go my first time around.

Spoiler:
After you take out Benny, you'll be approached by a guy from the Legion that will inform you that any previous attacks against them have been forgiven, and that Ceaser would like a word with you. Just be careful not to attack or kill any of the Legion after that because if your standing with them drops, you won't be able join them (obviously).

ok, thanks I remember that guy. How about the NCR? I helped them enough that they gave me a NCR Radio to call them...is that considered joining them? If you are a member of the Legion will you be able to do any other non-Legion quests? It seems to me that everyone would want to kill you on the spot.

basically if you stay friendly with them long enough, they will give you quests that will lead to Hoover Dam.

You can join several minor factions..you have four main factions that have already been mentioned, but how you fair with the minor factions impacts the ending gallery (Where you see all the smaller groups and your interactions with them.

Off the top of my head the smaller factions that you can 'join' interact with are

Spoiler:
The Bombers, The Kings, BoS, The Khans, Crimson Caravan, The Rangers

Re: Fallout New Vegas Announced

I am about 4 hours into my new character. I am having more fun this run than my first. This time there isn't the "i have no clue what i am doing" phase at the beginning. I plan to do all of the quests I can find and I am specializing in melee this time instead of guns. There is nothing like bashing someone's in head with a sledgehammer in VATS. I also plan to join the legion this time. This character is a female with a mohawk so she should fit right in.

Nice.

I was female my first go round and completed all the endings except the Legion one. I am tempted to start over again since I am kind of in a game lull right now but I put in over 100 hours the first time and just don't have that kind of time investment right now. I guess to streamline I could just do the Legion route... hmm what to do.

Re: Fallout New Vegas Announced

There are tons of weapons in the game, but I just play with the hunting rifle for the most part. it does the job. i do like that barrett looking sniper gun at hoover dam near the end of the game, can you get that anywhere before you get to that point? I would like to use it now.

I got Boone the desert sniper gun, and I used the special Gauss Rifle. I got the sniper gun fairly early..if that is the same sniper gun you are talking about.

Re: Fallout New Vegas Announced

After putting around 55 hours into this game, I am gonna retire it. I just have too many other games to play. It was a good time, I give it a 8.75 out of 10

Re: Fallout New Vegas Announced

I already had Dead Money and Honest Hearts. But I only played, and finished Dead Money. I never went back to play Honey Hearts.

So I got Lonesome Road and Old World Blues. Do I have to play Honey Hearts first? Do I have to play those 3 in any order?

Re: Fallout New Vegas Announced

"Honey Hearts"?

You don't have to play them in any particular order, although Lonesome Road is best saved for last since it's the conclusion to a plot thread that runs through the main game as well as the other DLCs.

So I've got New Vegas sitting under the tree as a gift to myself. Have you old pros got any advice on where to go and what to avoid when you are first starting the game up?

--head south first, you may have the desire to go north to get to the strip right away. however, you will get destroyed heading that way with a low level character.

--Get Boone and EDE as companions -- you will kill everything in your path

-- Don't just rely on auto-saves, save manually frequently and use several slots. that way if the game corrupts a save, which it is known to to do -- you will be in good shape. also, certain decisions can change the story quite a bit and you may not like a decision you made.

--Don't stress over pissing off the NCR and Legion to begin with...you can change things later at one point.

Re: Fallout New Vegas Announced

^^ all very good tips

If you don't want the game to be over quickly, take your time heading to the casino. There are literally 100 side-quests you can miss if you stick to the story. Just explore everything. The game can be over in 10 hours or 100 hours depending on how you play.

Thanks - Good stuff to know - especially since i love side quests and would hate to finish this quickly. I've heard rumors about corrupted saves - was it really that prevalent?

Re: Fallout New Vegas Announced

I never had any save issues, but it's still a good idea to have multiple saves in case you accidentally piss the wrong people off.

If you're into the side quests, I highly recommend buying the guide. It lists them all... and there really are some easy to miss ones. It's actually amazing that a developer would put so much content into a game that can VERY EASILY get completely skipped.
