Re: Fallout New Vegas Announced
I don't think I had any major issues with the PC version of Fallout 3, outside of a bug near the end where the big ass robot got stuck.
Regardless, I don't think there should be the assumption that bugs that plagued Fallout 3 would be there for New Vegas.

Oh yeah, I'm definitely not assuming that. I was just pointing out there was no perfect version of the game. And not everyone had problems with the PC version, but it's annoying when you have a fresh OS install on a computer that plays other games perfectly and you have weird glitches.
Obviously none of them bothered me too much, as I spent an absurd amount of time playing the game - even going through the whole game several times with various mods.

The PS3 version was bad at time during the main quest (froze up 2 or 3 times) but downright unplayable at times during the DLC. Freezing, horrible stuttering, etc. Hopefully they worked the kinks out with New Vegas.

Yeah, Fallout 3 on the PS3 was borderline disasterous. Hopefully the QA leader got fired, or at least whoever forced the game out "too soon".

Has there ever been a Bethesda game that wasn't riddled with bugs? It's one of the perils of a huge open world, and usually the gameplay trumps the problems.

• There will be vehicles. The desert of New Vegas dwarfs the Capital Wasteland and you will need transportation to get around and explore it. You will acquire a vehicle several hours into the main quest. You can customize your vehicle with parts bought at shops or won through racing circuits and quests. Vehicles will not be common, but you will encounter road gangs, merchant caravans, and other vehicles in the wastes. The open desert is home to some very large mutant creatures, like giant radscorpions and sandworms, that will attack your vehicle.

Re: Fallout New Vegas Announced
Oblivion GOTY for the PS3 has quest related bugs that remain unpatched (Vampire Cure and the Feldew for one of the shivering isles quests only appears once and if you miss it you can't finish the main SI quest) but it's only frozen on me once in probably 45 hours of play between the main game, Knights of the Nine plug in, and Shivering Isles expansion. Fallout may have had quest related bugs too but it definitely had WAY more bugs than Oblivion had in my experience.

Oops. I'd assumed it was something new since I'd been on a self-imposed Fallout: New Vegas news blackout.
Oh well, it sounded like it had the potential to be cool, but it easily could have gone the other way as well.

I didn't end up pre-ordering the special edition. Hopefully I can pick it up locally on release day. I'm so excited for this game. I just know I'm going to have a hard time finding time to actually play it.

Somebody on CAG who apparently works at TRU says it is indeed the regular Prima guide that you get - http://www.amazon.com/Fallout-New-Ve.../ref=pd_cp_b_1

Re: Fallout New Vegas Announced
Anyone else starting to get that feeling that New Vegas is going to be another Neverwinter Nights 2? There is a review embargo until the day the game comes out ....this could mean that they are expecting it to average in the 7's like Medal of Honor. I know in the past Bethesda has held up reviews for some games, but that has not been the case lately. Fallout 3 had reviews out early...a game they knew was going to get 9's and 10's. Alpha Protocol was a game I actually loved, but the reviews had to hurt sales.
Holding up the review score is not the only thing that scares me a bit, but the fact that reviewers got the game so late. IGN got the game yesterday to review. A game like Fallout New Vegas will take a week or two to get a good review done. IGN might not even have a review out till November.
I am buying the game blind...I don't care what the reviews say, especially after I enjoyed Alpha Protocol so much....but I can never forget the disappointment with NeverWinter Nights 2. It was a game I actually enjoyed a lot, but my expectations were so high...just like my expectations are for Fallout.....

They may have held back on sending reviewer copies due to Fallout 3 being leaked online about a month before it hit stores.

Re: Fallout New Vegas Announced
maybe...I can see that for the pc version, but I would imagine that the 360/ps3 version would be ok to send to at least the big review sites. It is not like piracy hurt the console sales of Fallout 3 (near 6 million sold)

Re: Fallout New Vegas Announced
I would argue that they also had a lot more to prove with Fallout 3 and thus needed a lot of advance word of mouth. As you said above, you're buying it blind. As will I. I'm sure they're aware of that factor as well.

I'm not sure how much they would be worried about reviews. I mean everybody loved Fallout 3 (almost everybody?), and from what I've read in websites, magazines, watched on TV, the same people is excited about this game.
They also should already know how preorders are going.
