Shotgun Surgeon

Required Character Level: 6
Required Attributes/Skills: Guns 45
Your precision with a scattergun is something to behold. When using shotguns, regardless of ammunition used, you ignore an additional 10 points of a target's damage threshold.

But yeah, a big paper map really helps in some parts of the game. But if I get the guide it will be more of a collectible thing.

The first game I played about 200 hours too but two playthroughs, one without the guide on PS3 where I missed a lot, one where I used the guide a bunch to find everything on XBox (got the XBox version because I wanted to play the extra content right away, in fact I really kind of got the XBox because of that).

32 pages, but no idea if that is anything useful.

It looks like TRUS will have be offering a free 10 dollar gift card along with the strategy guide with the purchase of the game. Check the ad for next Sunday for confirmation.

So GC + guide + game for $60? Any idea which guide?

I think the ad says it's a $35 value ($10 gift card and $25 guide) so it should be the softcover.

That may be the winner for my $. Not sure I want a TRU GC, but no other stores seem to be doing too much to entice me. $10 credit to Amazon isn't great. And this is about the only game where I'd use the strategy guide.

Agreed. I still have a $25 gift card to use from buying God of War 3 there WAY back when, so I think it's easily the best move for me.

New interview with Obsidian's Josh Sawyer.

Most interesting info that hadn't been revealed yet (as far as I know): You'll only be able to choose a perk every other level, and once again there is NO post-endgame free roam play. He does say, however, that there will be a very clear warning for players as they approach the point of no return.

... until they release the first expansion, which will sell like hotcakes just for that reason.

Yeah, probably. He seemed to imply that whatever happens at the end of the game has a major impact on the world and that it would have taken too much development effort to make all the changes to reflect that.

If I remember correctly, that was the same logic behind the same initial decision for Fallout 3.

That'll probably upset alot of people, but what's the big deal? Just get to the point of no return and then start exploring.

Since I received a $20 credit for MOH, I decided to order the guide. Unfortunately that credit, that's supposed to be used in Videogames only, doesn't apply for videogames guides.

I'm trying to not read articles on this in order to avoid spoilers. Any word on if they're having multiple endings like in Fallout 1 & 2?

I would assume multiple endings because you have multiple factions that you can help/hinder.

First possible review?

Over the past 13 years, the "Fallout" franchise has proved to the gaming community that you don't need wizards, castles and dragons to make a proper role-playing game. The retrofuturistic style coupled with the incredible depth of gameplay made this post-apocalyptic adventure a downright thrilling experience. As time passed, the isometric-viewed, point-and-click interface and grainy graphics became obsolete, forcing an evolution of epic proportion. Enter "Fallout 3." This journey into the next generation blended the creative style of the originals while advancing the gameplay, graphics and depth. Now, after spending two years at the top of the console RPG charts, Bethesda Game Studios is looking to re-create the magic with the latest in its atomic franchise, "Fallout: New Vegas."

Life in Vegas is hard. Life in the ultraviolent wasteland that is New Vegas is near impossible. But with the right mindset and skills, you just might just survive. As you make your way across the Mojave and what's left of the Vegas Strip, you'll encounter creatures, characters and crooks that want nothing more than to see you dead. The only way to prevent your demise is to think fast, watch your back and carry plenty of really big guns. If you know how to play your cards right, you might even do a little better than merely surviving. You could be the next King of New Vegas.

At first glance, "Fallout: New Vegas" may seem like a first-person shooter. Don't be fooled, because under the hood, this game is pure RPG. Your character is fully customizable, right down to his skills, attributes and equipment, each of which has an impact on the overall gameplay. Sure, you can blast away at bad guys with your pistol, but without the proper skill with a firearm, you'll be hitting air more than vitals.

Bethesda has added several upgrades to the old "Fallout 3" system, which make controls and gameplay much more streamlined. Companions can now be controlled much more easily using the newly added Companion Wheel, and the updated reputation system has created a virtual world where your choices affect everything and everyone around you.

With "Fallout 3," Bethesda managed to do the impossible by evolving a beloved game franchise, while still staying true to the originals. "Fallout: New Vegas" manages to re-create the same magic found in the 2008 blockbuster while removing and fixing some minor flaws that hindered its predecessor.

I've never had my console freeze up, I guess I should be thankful.

That was a harder issue in the PS3. In the Xbox 360 if you had more than 100 saves you could have some issues.

Re: Fallout New Vegas Announced

The PC version had a fair amount of issues as well. My PC was running XP and was well over the recommended system requirements and suffered from frequent crashes when I would go into a new area (through a door, using the map, etc.) as well as the radio constantly stuttering. The crashes went away when I installed Windows 7 on my computer, but the stuttering radio required a good deal of effort to fix, and required doing things I would have rather avoided, like installing mystery codec packs.
