Re: "Favorite" Video Game Tournament Round #1/Group #1 Poll

Quick question, assume I am unfamiliar with the games in certain match ups, should I not vote on those at all or vote based on limited rudimentary knowledge of those games?

Probably shouldn't vote for them, but that is completely up to you.

I'm voting anyways because I would imagine with video games there will a lot more situations where people haven't played both.

I was thinking more along the lines where I haven't played either game in the match up.

Re: "Favorite" Video Game Tournament Round #1/Group #1 Poll

Match #1
#41 Beyond Good and Evil (multi)
vs.
#88 Tie Fighter (PC)
Tough break for Tie Fighter, which was a fun game and very cutting-edge for its day, but Beyond Good and Evil was just so great that I had to vote for it.

Match #2
#42Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii)
vs.
#87 Theif (PC)
I like Twilight Princess well enough, but Thief is one of the all-time greats.

Match #3
#43 Civilization IV (PC)
vs.
#86 Unreal Tournament (PC)
Never played UT, but I can't imagine there is anything in it that would make me vote against Civ, which got my vote.

Match #4
#44 F-Zero (SNES)
vs.
#85 Street Fighter IV (multi)
Never played either (though I've played other SF games), so I abstained.

Match #5
#45 Heroes of Might and Magic III (PC)
vs.
#84 Toejam & Earl (Genesis)
I'd love to see a fourth TJ&E game, but HoMM has to get my vote.

Just like all the other tournaments going on in this board, I haven't been voting if I haven't seen/played both. But if I played one I vote for the one I played. I figure that the question posed is "which would you rather play at any given time." so I'd rather play the one I have experience in than the one that I haven't played for various reasons.

It's too bad Thief isn't on there, and you opted for the crappy knock-off Theif instead.

Shoot, I just accidentally voted for "The If," which I thought was that survival horror game from the early 90's.

Never actually finished BG&E and while I saw the potential, I couldn't in good conscious vote against Tie Fighter.

Voted Thief, even though I never played it, because I think Zelda will be well-represented in this tourney and there's no need to let one of the weaker entries muddy up the waters.

FPS just aren't my thing, so you're going to have to be epic to get my vote. Besides, it's Civilization we're talking about.

F-Zero was so amazing on the SNES when it came out with all the Mode 7 awesomeness. That and fighting games died with Killer Instinct to me.

Wasn't it Charlie Brown who taught us I before E except after C?

By that same logic, wouldn't you be able to select one of the two games you haven't played in a matchup that you would rather try over the other?
For example for me, I have never played BG&E (though I do own it to give you an idea of how bad my backlog problem is) or Tie Fighter, but I would much rather play BG&E if those were the only 2 games I had the option of playing. And of course there will be times where I would rather just shoot myself than play either (like matchup #5), so those types I just abstain from voting on.

Thief (never played the full game, but liked the demo)
Unreal Tournament (played FreeCiv and CivRev, and UT was more fun)
F-Zero (one of the best games. that statement is not missing a clause or modifier)

I voted for whatever one wasn't a PC game. Except for TIE Fighter cause I actually played that one.

The PC games were holding their own for a while there. Perhaps they will make a comeback.
