I know you didn't say that. I was quoting a part of a review that someone posted on this page. Infamous is still quite fun although somewhat repetitive. But when you think about games which one isn't repetitive in actions or goals?

Re: Prototype (Activision, Radical Entertainment) - June 9th
Infamous wasn't bad, just not the epic open world superhero/villain experience I expected. I think it would be worth a rental, but not a purchase. It was fun enough to get all the trophies on, but again, that took under a week of on-and-off play. I am still looking forward to Prototype, the sheer violence alone should be worthwhile. If not, as long as its a fun few days, that puts it on the same level as Red Faction and Infamous.

Gamepro also gives it a 90.

It's weird, user reviews are at 9.0 on metacritic for the PS3 version, but only 5.9 on the 360 side. I'm sure we'll see more "pro" reviews before the week is over though. I'm waiting on reviews before buying this too.

I don't get the faith in reviews. I'd invest a few bucks and rent to see for myself, than take someone else's highly subjective word.

Other then Gamefly, it's like $7 to rent a game at Blockbuster. I'd rather look at a large amount of reviews and hear thoughts about the game, as usually I can find someone with likes/dislikes that are similar to my own. Especially since I don't play/buy a lot of games like other people here.

It's the fanboy curve.
So wait, we have a review for Ghostbusters: The Game but still nothing for Tiger Woods '10 or Prototype?
It's $9.99 at BBV here. Though they do have a tier, like $6 for 1 night or $10 for the week. Stupid.
Videogame reviews tend to be more in sync than movie reviews - it's hard to argue bad control, glitchy gameplay, bad graphics and voice acting, etc;

I guess I'd rather spend $7 and try it myself, rather than listen to people who have no more expertise than anyone else.

You're right, they don't have any more expertise, which is why other gamer opinions carry just as much weight as paid critics.
Plus, most rental shops won't have it til Friday at the soonest here

Well, there is some sense in renting games that are short with limited replay, but to spend $7 to try a game I really want that might cost me less than $50 to own doesn't make a lot of sense to me. In either case, it's not as easy are reading a few reviews on the Internet first. Do I take their word as gospel? No. But I do find that more often than not, if the reviews are really solid, the game is usually pretty good. If the reviews are almost universally middling to bad, there usually is a good reason for that trend.

I agree, but I buy any games that interest me. If I am on the fence, I rent and buy if warranted. I read reviews to pass the time if I'm bored, but I'd never let one steer me off a game.

Now, if anyone could actually get a copy of this game and let us know how it is I would be satisfied. This floating release date is bullshit. I called three different B&Ms today and got three different release dates and none of them were today.

You better call ahead to make sure they have your copy in hand. Apparently there are quite a few people that were told it would be in hand today to be picked up to only be told today that it will be on hand tomorrow.
