PS2 Mortal Kombat: Armageddon or Deception?

I realize this thread is several years too late (and maybe no one cared even then), but I was wanting to pick up a Mortal Kombat game for my PS2.

I'm very much a novice with Mortal Kombat games, particularly with single player games, so I'm wanting to grab the one that is better for pick up and play against buddies, etc.

I gather that the difficulty can be adjusted on Armageddon, but that title lacks original fatalities. On the other hand, the extras on Armageddon (Motor Kombat and an "improved" Konquest) sound a bit better than Deception.

Don't know if there are any other considerations, so please share your thoughts. Thanks!

Armageddon has every character in the MK universe so I'd roll with that one if I were you. For that whole 6th generation MK series (Deadly Alliance-Deception-Armageddon) the play mechanics don't really change from title to title so don't let that worry you. The title can be found for about $20.00 everywhere so its a safe gamble.

Re: PS2 Mortal Kombat: Armageddon or Deception?

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. I've considered getting the three-pack deal, but I was really just wanting to get one of the "proper" MKs for a very reasonable price (no more than $10). It sounds like Konquest in Armageddon plays similar to Shaolin Monks, too. The three-pack is a very good deal, though.

Thanks again!

as a huge fan of mk1-mk4, i cannot stand the newer mk's, especially armageddon and deception. even for $10, i'd say it's not really worth it as they are so wonky and boring IMO.

you'd be better off getting Midway arcade treasures and playing mk2 /mk3 w friends

I thought Deadly Alliance was the best of the newer series. Armageddon had that shitty create-a-fatality which was BS.

Re: PS2 Mortal Kombat: Armageddon or Deception?

Thanks for all of the input, gang. Y'all's responses led me to a "curveball" decision I'm excited about (purchased game through eBay, don't have it in-hand yet).

The mention of Shaolin Monks got me doing a little research, and I realized that the versus mode is very similar to the Power Stone-style of fighting game, which I dig quite a bit. (Believe it or not, I really like Marvel Nemesis). I didn't realized SM had this option; I know it isn't a full-fledged part of the game, but I gather it will be enough for some good multiplayer. And besides, I've been wanting to get SM for awhile because it sounded like a good beat'em-up, co-op to boot.

Thanks again!
