And to think I was only concerned about whether they would include solo Hagar material to round out the song list, not whether they would not include half of their entire catalog. A group like Van Halen would have been perfect for a game in that their two frontmen would make the game less monotonous, I will still cling to the hope that this information is wrong.

No question. When the word got around in the market that Aerosmith was missing a HUGE chunk of their library, it stalled. This Van Halen headscratcher is even worse and there is a more informed market now. I thought they learned their lesson with Metallica but that is obviously not the case.

I thought it was releasing in June.
Whatever the date is, their development department needs to seriously look at this and put it back in the oven to cook. Unless they are going for a super quick cash grab from the uninformed out there, releasing it with all the issues that it seems to have before anyone has even played the game, looks to be a mistake.
Who's gonna buy this on release day except for clueless soccer moms whose sons probably don't even know who Van Halen is?

I enjoyed the Aerosmith game. I really enjoyed the Metallica game. Van Halen has a lot of good songs pre-Hagar. I predict I will enjoy the Van Halen game as well. I won't buy this on release day but I will be getting it for sure.

This won't happen, but hypothetically speaking what if this game released at $30? Would that sway any of you that are now waiting for the bargain bin?

What's funny is they probably would have made more money off of me had they just gone the DLC route.

Yep, I don't really like Van Halen much, and I prefer Hagar, but I would still drop $15-20 for an exportable disc or straight DLC pack...but I won't spend $10 for this standalone disc.

If this game *had* Hagar tunes, I wouldn't bother with it. But even without, I'm entirely sick of GH "more standalone discs, less DLC" method of building a library. I will also wait until clearance levels.

Re: Activision Preparing "Guitar Hero: Van Halen"
This is a definite rental for me, but it would've been regardless of the content. I'll only buy the 'full' games, Like RB 1 & 2, GH II, III, and WT. As much as I like the Metallica, I can't buy it because it's just not enough variety and quantity for me to play enough.
Out of the 4 solo projects (Aerosmith, Metallica, AC/DC, and Van Halen), Van Halen is the only one that I would even consider buying at full price, especially if it's pre-Sammy. Once DLR left, the music wasn't the same, it lost it's edge. Sure Van Hagar has a ton of great songs, but for pure guitar-ripping fun, nothing beats Van Halen. 1984 & before seems like a bunch of guys recording in their garage while they throw down some beer, and post 1984 seems too polished & cleaned up...champagne music. Find me a post DLR song that sounds as raw as Atomic Punk, I'm the one, and D.O.A.. It reminds me of the Metallica 'sell-out' argument of the post-Black album era.

Re: Activision Preparing "Guitar Hero: Van Halen"
But guys! It's got another Queen song on it!
Seriously, I feel compelled to rent it for a few songs, but I wonder how long they'll stretch out the whole "one Queen song per GH disc" thing. It's really pretty annoying.

Queen is a band that needs their own disc more than others I have seen mentioned. Hell, RB could go The Beatles route with it though it wouldn't sell half as many that The Beatles move, unfortunately. A Queen release would be a good way to introduce a new piano peripheral.

Would I buy a $30 VH game? If it had Hagar, in a heartbeat. Without, it's a bargain bin title.
Van Halen with Sammy Hagar at the helm still had Eddie & Alex. It's no less Van Halen than with DLR.
The Van Hagar moniker is as retarded as Di$ney or M$.

Re: Activision Preparing "Guitar Hero: Van Halen"
Although I will admit, the majority of those who do say "Van Hagar" do so derisively. Myself included, I will admit. With different showmen, they really were two entirely different bands. Not just new vocals, but an entirely new style of songwriting and musicianship. Then again, DLR solo made one great record (the awesome "Eat Em And Smile") and then descended into utter shit (although "Skyscraper" had a few decent moments, but "Just Like Paradise" was definitely NOT one of them).

Still not up for preorder at Amazon or the EBgames site.
