Here's what I remember:
The blog about the note made it sound like there was an unknown Mega-Artist coming.
The note itself just said they'd be able to play a new Mega-Artist a day early.
I contend that it's just a blogger reading too deep between the lines and it's just Pearl Jam. Would love to be wrong.

Wasn't U2 one of the strongly rumored bands mentioned way back before GH:Aerosmith was announced when Activision was batting around the talk of doing artist themed full releases? Was that all squashed over time?

Right on. Kravitz was just coincidently the next artist announced on weekly DLC. He wasn't the "Mega-Artist" referenced in the invitation sent out.

We have two more tracks from the Offspring, a Grammy-winning R.E.M. song with "Losing My Religion", and a track from Richard Thompson named one of the top 20 guitarists of all time by Rolling Stone. We will be announcing the Wii DLC for next week later.

I have never heard of Richard Thompson.... other 3 songs are all good stuff... Would have prefered new to Rockband bands, but those are all good stuff...

Sweet! Love the R.E.M. surprise.
I'd also like to point out that's a Warner-era R.E.M. track, contrary to the earlier no-Warner rumors from a week ago, so I assume Jane's Addiction is still a possibility.
