I gave the update a spin the other day. I believe nabbing a Spectra gains you half of your time bar now instead of 1/3. It definitely helped.
I'm 100% all the way through Garden 6 and have gotten the first Spectra in both 8 & 9.

Yes. The "All Seeds" trophies for each garden have been updated to now require "without using continues" so it's still a challenge, but it's easier because the larger time crystals refill more of your meter than before.
Having more time should also make it easier to get the 100,000 pollen in one garden trophy.

I don't care about the trophies. Just glad I can play this without getting fed up because of time running out. Now if they could just fix the time problem with echochrome I would be all set.

With PixelJunk Monsters and Eden having attracted somewhat of a cult following, all eyes are now on Q-Games to reveal its next project.
Unfortunately, it's still under wraps, but the developer's founder, Dylan Cuthbert, has been dropping some hints as to what we can expect, promising "something interesting."
It's still secret but it will be something that invokes old memories yet has something completely new and unused before in it too," he told ihobo.
Cuthbert recently debunked rumours of a GDC reveal for the title, posting on his Twitter: "Everyone seems to think we are showing PixelJunk 1-4 next week at GDC. but it ain't true. Eden Encore will be there in its full glory tho."

I'm looking forward to what they do with Encore. Personally I want a real menu screen with a level select. I hate having to play a little mini-game just to get to the board I actually want to play. Cool concept on paper, but not very practical once you get to the upper levels.
I love that game, but the timer is why I haven't gone back to it. I would spend a dozen minutes working out the board giving it a run through and my guy would be within an inch of finishing when time runs out. Too annoying.

A little more info about Encore from the official PS blog:
I'm sure it will also include: brand new ways to be extremely frustrating while somehow remaining fun.
Eden Encore will be coming out very soon in April. Get ready for zero gravity, mirror worlds, all new music from Baiyon, and we’ve added something extra special at the end which is a Big Secret(tm) and is a present to all the fans.

So... something I've never figured out... on the "menu" level... there are a couple "flowers" (look like ship steering wheels) which inverse the colors of the screen...
What do they do? Is there a purpose to them?

patch for Eden coming
plus more info about Encore here >>> http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/...ncore-details/
To make things a little easier we are going to retro-patch the original Eden to have a new feature we created for Encore. This is the three-seed smart-bomb power your Grimp now has. Simply put, if you jump into three full seeds in a row, all the “Prowlers” on the screen explode into a big cloud of pollen. Everyone who boots up their original Eden in a few weeks will be patched and get this feature, so look out for that!

Hmm, interesting new trick, but the three seeds move is not easy to do (not too hard either though). It's probably useful for the 100,000 trophy, definitely the 500 prowlers one.

Re: PixelJunk Eden Patch 1-15-2009
i still haven't got the 100,000 one
apparently the score has nothing to do with the pollen count. For this trophy, you really really really need to combo the prowlers. The best way to do it is two players... Or that three seeds pounding move promised in the new patch (or Encore).

I'd like to support the developers (even though I understand they made a profit on day one of the release of Eden) but I'm going to pass for $5.99 for the expansion.... I'll wait for a price drop to consider.
still would like to hear the opinions of those who pick it up

I thought I read that, in the U.K. update, the encore was 2.29 pounds. Doesn't seem to track very well with the U.S. price. I was hoping it'd be $4 or so, but agreed that $6 isn't horrible.
