Gaming Console Placement
I need some advice as to how i have my Xbox 360 and PS3 placed
let me know if its bad the way i have them or if it doesn't matter ... if you can, post up a pic of your own arrangements heres a few of mine... they might be a bit too close to the TV both are brand new consoles ... the Xbox is my 3rd and the ps3 is my 1st <a href="http://s19.photobucket.com/albums/b176/thenuke1/?action=view¤t=CIMG2829.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b176/thenuke1/CIMG2829.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> the 360 runs smoothly like this .... <a href="http://s19.photobucket.com/albums/b176/thenuke1/?action=view¤t=CIMG2831.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b176/thenuke1/CIMG2831.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> i have not tested the ps3 like this since i just put it up from where it usto be. <a href="http://s19.photobucket.com/albums/b176/thenuke1/?action=view¤t=CIMG2832.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b176/thenuke1/CIMG2832.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> this is where i usto have it and as you can see it had very little ventilation. I was watching a movie (Payback: Straight Up Cut for those wondering) and by the end of the movie it got very hot. It had never gotten that hot before so i moved it up from where it was.. <a href="http://s19.photobucket.com/albums/b176/thenuke1/?action=view¤t=CIMG2830.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b176/thenuke1/CIMG2830.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> what do you guys think |
Re: Gaming Console Placement
I probably wouldn't have my systems teetering on the edge of the TV stand like that.

Re: Gaming Console Placement
 Yeah, that doesn't look like the most stable setup. IMO, if you are going to have a $800 TV and another $600 worth of gaming equipment, I'd spend another $100-$150 on a decent component rack.
Or at the least mount the TV freeing up space for the consoles on the existing table. |
Re: Gaming Console Placement
I have my 360 in the open air part of my entertainment center, so it get's maximum airflow. It's horizontal. My PS3 is on one of the shelves on the side of the unit, behind a glass door that I open when I play for a while. It's vertical.

Re: Gaming Console Placement
Yea..move those babies off the top and away from the edge. Me...I'd move each to it's own shelf in the middle and "nothing else" (games). For the 360 though take the bulking Power housing, run it to the back side and either mount it or move it to the side for air flow. That does need air flow. Can't say about the PS3.
What you cn do to help is elevate both by blocks or something else like painted 1" x 1" wood strips on the sides or some type of wood leg blocks (Home Depot or Lowes) at each corner. If you're concerned about the wood backing not allowing air flow do you have a cordless drill? If so get one of those cheap "Door Knob Holesaw Kit" like the Black & Decker for $10-12. It comes with a 2-1/4" hole saw and drill about (3) in the back of each panel. You want to drill from the inside...not from the back. That way the cut will look nice and clean. If you really want to dress it up then get some Black and White foam board and line each shelf area; back, sides and bottom. You could even do all "Black" to highllite the 360 and all "White' to highlite the PS3. Just some ideas... Kenny J |

Here's pics of my gameroom. They are about one year old. I need to take some new ones. We hadn't been in our house too long so this was a quick setup.

Re: Gaming Console Placement
I agree with everyone else about taking those away from hanging off the edge. If you can't get another rack or maybe open up the back of that unit, then at the very least i'd move the PS3 onto one of those shelves.

Re: Gaming Console Placement
With all the heat consoles produce now I have gone to open air racks.

Re: Gaming Console Placement
I'm gonna look in to a small to medium sized open air rack ... I'll have to move around some stuff but its worth it.

Re: Gaming Console Placement
Don't laugh but check "Walmart" especially their web site. They actually do have a decent selection and then there's the price which is hard to beat. With the LCD you have you should be able to find a nice open or semi open model to house everything.

Re: Gaming Console Placement
I had something similar to yours, where all the systems got really hot. I bought a nice little stand at Wal-Mart for $80 or so, and it looks and works great. I have the Wii on the right of the TV, the 360 on the first shelf, the PS3 on the second, and the DVR on the bottom.

Re: Gaming Console Placement
I bought a nice TV stand at Wal-Mart for about $70 at the same time I got my 40" LCD. Its a special stand that allows the TV to look like its floating in the air. The shelves are open-air sytle so I don't have to worry about my components overheating and man is it roomy.

Re: Gaming Console Placement
Just about...but the shelves are different. The top shelf is not as long as the bottom so that's where I put my PS3 and 360. The bottom shelf also doesn't have those poles on the sides so it made it easier for my Laserdisc player to fit.

I have a large collection of LDs I don't want to get rid of. I'd also like to watch them rather than have them collecting dust. I do the same thing with my VideoCDs. |
Re: Gaming Console Placement
actually looks fine to me lol

Re: Gaming Console Placement
Looks safe to me, I'd go with it. Hell you can probably set a few plants on top of the consoles, the extra CO2 guards against RRoD.
