Which Mario Party is best?

Hi there. I haven't played Mario Party since the second one came out, but I'd like to pick up a newer version. I'm not a huge fan, but my wife really likes it so I figured I'd grab one for her. We'll be getting a Wii soon, and I've read that MP 8 is...OK, but not great. Keep in mind I haven't played any of them since MP 2, so familiarity isn't a big issue. Should I pick up MP 8, or are any of the Gamecube sequels better?

I'd just get 8.

If you get a GC one, 6 is usually thought of as being best.

1 & 2 are still the best in my book. I think I kept up through 4 and then played the newest (8?).

MP2 was by far the best...I could play Bumper Balls all day.

Still don't know why they haven't released a "Best of" collection, with mini-games from all of them.

You and the rest of the free world. They could even revisit some of the 'analog twisters' from the first game using the Wiimote. We loved the treasure chest fishing and 3 v 1 tug of war.

Re: Which Mario Party is best?

My wife and I have all eight console games, and here is my take:

Mario Party 4 is basically a redress of Mario Party 3. If you liked that, then 4 lets you do most of the same stuff, but on the Gamecube/Wii. Mario Party 8 is similarly a redress of Mario Party 7, but is not in widescreen. If you have a widescreen TV, you should definitely know before you pay full price for that game that it is only in 4:3 aspect ratio. I wish we had known that. Personally, I like 7 the best, because the gameplay of each of the five boards is different, rather than being cosmetic. For instance, in one board each of the four players has five stars, and the game is spent trying to steal them from one another; in another board, you invest coins in windmills to earn them.

Yeah I actually enjoyed the originals, had the most fun with them. Everything else became the same ol same ol.
