and you cant buy wii sports buy itself....

I wonder what the real best selling game is...would it be the GTA the mentioned...or maybe it's Nintendogs...I don't think that was bundled unless in Japan.

nintendogs is not bundled.

Some NES had duck hunt/SMB, others just had SMB

It most certainly was. As this is the DS we first got: http://www.nintendogs.com/bundle/index_pink.html

Only 1 game out of the top 15 is non-Nintendo? That's awesome. Even with 120 million PS2s out there Sony couldn't get another title in there? Odd.

In Europe and Japan, you have to buy Wii Sports by itself.

Re: Wii Sports Now the Best-Selling Game of All Time

I call shenanigans, as has been pointed out, it comes with the system, so the game has a 1:1 attach-rate for (one of) the biggest selling consoles of all time. That's lame. I'd rather see stats on the biggest selling game of all time that was only sold by itself.

Point one: I'm always entertained when lists like this are published, and fans start complaining, as though they had a personal stake in the results. Point two: Because of the nature of the pack-in advantage, I do agree there really ought to be a separate list of entirely standalone games. Not because I cry foul, but because it's less interesting this way.

I think what lists like this do is show what is popular amoung the masses. As a group, we tend to assume that other people are aware of videogames like Mass Effect and God of War. In reality, most people think videogames=Mario.

I think it would be unfair to take out the pack-in games. What about something like MGS4? You want to discount it from the list because it was available as a pack-in? What about temporary pack-ins?

Also, it was only a pack-in in America so stop crying.

Re: Wii Sports Now the Best-Selling Game of All Time

Just because a game is a pack-in doesn't mean it wouldn't be popular to begin with, as Groucho said. Super Mario World would have been my first SNES purchase had it not come bundled.

You don't openly stare at something so awesome and glorious. It's like the sun.

Maybe for the first year, or so, of the console's life, but after that fewer and fewer people would be buying it and a majority of those who'd get a Wii later and want still want that game would easily find it used by then.

I bet if Wii Sports wasn't a pack-in, it's sales numbers would be about halved.

I don't know about 1/2. Wii Sports is the system seller.

Hell, they expect to sell another 10 million of the first one. What's the rush?
