Xbox resolution questions
OK - I just picked up a sweet mamajama TV (52LG70) and want to know the most bestest way to hook shit up. I had a 720p set prior and used VGA to connect my 360. But I want to make sure I get the best of the best now.
Should I: a) Continue to use the VGA b) Use component direct to the TV c) component through my receiver which upscales to 1080p (pioneer elite vsx-92txh) and connect that with HDMI (which is what my ps3 & wii are doing) |
Can the 360 do 1080p over component? If not, maybe you should use the VGA, with the console set to 1080p. I would guess that the 360 would do a better job of scaling than the receiver, but you could try both and see.
Then again, I don't have a 360, so maybe I'm not the best to give advice like this. :) Oh wait, you might want to an input lag test (I think Rock Band/Guitar Hero has this), and find out if the receiver introduces lag when upscaling. Again, I think the 360 might be better in this regard, but you could compare them. |
i tried vga last night, and while i can't say 1080p, I can set it to 1920x1080.
I think the 120hz setting also ads lag from what I've read so I need to do a bunch of tests to get settings right. Damn these new gadgets. |

Are you using the HD-DVD drive? I think that is limted to 1080i over component.

Use VGA @ 1920x1080 or swap it out for an HDMI unit. Avoid fucking around with upscaling as much as possible.

If VGA or upgrading to an HDMI 360 aren't what you want to do, then just stick with component. You can get 1080p over component for the games and such. |
Component cable will only get you 1080i you can set ur 360 to 1080p it will still be 1080i. Use HDMI.

I don't think he has an HDMI-capable 360, though. Notice the only option for HDMI he listed was output from the receiver after it upconverts.
His set will deinterlace the 1080i signal well enough. Most 360 sources aren't 1080p anyway, are they? Isn't 720p the overwhelming standard for games anyway? |

So if the sources available to the 360 are 1080i max, and component outputs 1080i max (which it doesn't, it puts out 1080p for games), then it doesn't matter what you choose, L&O.

Well, the upscaling through the receiver is a potential issue though - even though it would be nice to be able to only use one input on the TV ;)
|
Yeah, there would be an additional video processing delay through the receiver (which I said back when you were still getting your much-needed beauty sleep).
