If EGM goes under, that'll be a sad day for me. I've been reading the magazine faithfully since 1993.
I've tried reading other gaming magazines such as GamePro, Next Generation, Game Informer, Nintendo Power and others that I can't think of, but none of those came close to the quality, depth and breadth that EGM provided.
I'm still pissed at my mom for throwing out my old EGMs when she moved into her current house. She didn't even ask me if I still wanted them!

I wish i could remember the name of the magazines i used to read as a kid that had the programs in BASIC laid out so you could retype them and play a game or do something amusing.
I used to spend hours retyping those articles to only leave out a semicolon and spend even more hours hunting down my typo that broke the program.

Trying to figure out why the "Robotron Globe" on top of the cabinet is, technically, displaying its name upside-down or, for that matter, why there is a giant quarter inside it that no one would be able to see if the cabinet was properly sitting up.

But the rocket boosters and the robot cowboy riding it through space don't set off any alarms?

Hrm. I know i spent tons of time looking for typos and problems. I thought i remembered hunting down punctuation mistakes. Perhaps it was screwed up If/Then or Goto statements i had screwed up.
Man it, is tough remembering back to those days. I remember entering this stuff on an old Texas Instruments... a TI-99 maybe? You had to save the programs on a tape recorder.
I do remember writing a program that just flashed random colors on the screen. Amazing i never gave myself a seizure.

I don't think this needs it's own thread.

Casualties at GameSpot as CBS merges sites
Matt Martin

CBS Interactive is laying off staff over a number of its websites including GameSpot.com, as it merges titles following the acquisition of CNet.
GameSpot will now be incorporated into a single group including sports and music properties such as Last.fm and CBSSports.com
"CBS Interactive continues its integration process, which now calls for the further combination of several portions of the division into unified groups oriented around similar content," said CBS in a statement.
"This important move allows us to better align our premium content for our audiences and our advertisers, and also results in reduction in certain areas that are now duplicated in the new organisation structure.
"We believe these moves are necessary to continue building CBS Interactive into the most creative, most efficient, most profitable and fastest growing internet company in the media business."
When contacted by GamesIndustry.biz, CBS Interactive declined to comment in detail, stating: "We're not sharing specific numbers for GameSpot or CBS Interactive overall."
CBS Interactive bought CNet Networks earlier this year for around USD 1.8 billion.

I got mine yesterday and I must say I'm glad I didn't pay for the subscription. I didn't see much worth paying for when I flipped through it.

I enjoyed the PoP and Tomb Raider reviews, as well as the piece on under the radar games for next year. Other than that it was a waste of a tree.
I also got a chuckle when I was flipping through to see Milkie's name attached to 3 articles back to back. Shouldn't he hire someone to write those for him? And what the hell is Jen Tsao doing these days? She was pictured in the review section but I never see anything from her.

I liked the list of games for next year, as it had a bunch that I didn't know of or wasn't on my radar. I thought the article on the Wolverine game was good too and piqued my interest.
