I was just about finished with the single player last night, so I jumped online for what I thought to be a few matches. Mind you I hardly ever play on XBL. Before I knew what hit me, 4 hours have passed and I found myself playing "just 1 more game" to rank up many times.

I'm having a lot of fun with the Free-For-All mode, but was wondering what modes you guys like to play?

Team death match is a fun one to play plus you get more points per kill and get level up faster

Does your rank & challenges carry over, or do you start at 1 again?

What exactly is Prestige mode and how do you 'unlock/open' it?

You unlock it once you complete the last level (65 in this one). It takes you back to the beginning, i.e., rank 1, private. So you lose all the stuff you unlocked. I think you get an extra gold star next to your name in this one.

I never thought I'd do it in 4, but it gets kind of monotonous without leveling up, and you start to wonder why in the world you're racking up all those XP.

Ranks and challenges apply universally, to all game types. Except the challenges that are game type-specific, of course.

Definitely try Domination. War is too predictable (but can be mucho fun in its own right), as everyone converges on the one point, but Domination can spread folks out over three different ones. Plus, it gives you a place to aim your random nades.

Team Deathmatch is good, too, though I wish they would allow more players on the larger maps.

Never got into Sabotage or Search and Destroy, but I could see it being many peoples' cups of tea.

LOL, I was able to complete veteran, but I will probably not be able to get my 1000 points since I can't for the life of me shoot down 45 damn zeroes

If they fix the spawns, this will pretty much be a perfect game.

I can't get more than 35-ish, and I can't hit all the freakin' spotlights in Black cat also, which really pisses me off. I did just get the 'Kill 15 Germans while riding on the tank in Ring of Steel' though, which also gave me some trouble for a while, so maybe there's hope

It would be perfect if it actually played 4 people online per one XBox 360!

This is one thing I actually think they nailes perfectly - when you spawn, you spawn near the action and not in some hut on the other end of the board - well, I like it anyway.

I also hear a lot of bitching about tanks being "too hard" to destroy. People, listen, this isn't COD 4 where you can use the same class of weapons for damn near everything. If you equip yourself the anti-tank grenade and throw it just right (not hard to do either) it will stick to the tank and blow it up instantly.

I love this game even more after playing more multi-player - the classes I create actually have a purpose now.

they unlocked Zombie mode for everyone a while back, and yes I still play. 98% of the time it's on the new Swamp map.

Re: Call of duty WOW

The new swamp map kicks ass. The second one was fun, but something about it didn't do it for me. The new has even let's you outside, and the devil dogs are a nice touch.

I like the newest maps, too. The swamp one can be hard since the zombies come from all directions.

Re: Call of duty WOW

So the zombie mode was all screwed up for me yesterday. It would go to the loading screen and hang up for a few seconds, then after it started everything was in something like a fast forward mode. Then it would crash and go back to the waiting screen. Has anyone else been having this problem?

Re: Call of duty WOW

yep .. most of the weekend was hit or miss with actually getting a game going. I could tell there were going to be issues when your level and rank would disappear from next to your name when trying to find a game to join.

We were also getting stuck in the results/game over screen, and could only get out by going back to the dashboard

Call of Duty fans' heads are likely still swimming with the thought that they might own night vision goggles by year's end, but Activision's still cranking out Call of Duty: World at War DLC for fans living in the here and now. August will mark the release of the third map pack for the game, the company announced today.

As with the second map pack, the three new maps ("Battery," "Revolution," and "Breach") have been developed in conjunction with Certain Affinity, the team of former Bungie guys behind Age of Booty. There's also a new zombie map, "Der Riese," provided for your brain-blasting pleasure.
As much as COD4 set the bar... Treyarch is really getting it right with the release of these map packs to keep the game fresh. Even if there are some shitty maps (Station, Sub Pens) in the previous releases, at least there's a lot of variety for everyone.

Re: Call of duty WOW

I just picked this up during Gamestop's B2G1 sale.

Is there any point trying to get into the multiplayer at this time, or am I just too far behind?

I'm assuming that I'd need to download the map packs right away. Does anyone happen to know off the top of their head what those cost?

Thanks.
