The Resistance 2 thread of exploded Chimera giblets

I figure since the Resistance 2 Public Beta is ending tonight, it's time for a thread for the actual game.

It seems to make up for shipping my copies of Fallout 3 and LittleBIGPlanet so late, Amazon has shipped my copy of Resistance 2 to me EARLY! So hopefully I'll have it by Saturday, or Monday at the latest. Really looking forward to digging into this one. What I played of the beta was fun, especially co-op.

This game has received high ratings and seems to be a no brainer when it is released. It will be the last game I buy this year. I'm looking forward to it.

I'm definitely getting this title. The question is whether I get the regular version or use some Game Crazy credit on the Collector's Edition for $20 more. That's the way I'm leaning since the figure looks so awesomely badass.

This series has a ton of potential, it's unfortunate the single player was so amazingly generic and dull in the first one. Here's to hoping this sequel lives up to the potential.

Edit: The commercial for this game is one of the worst VG ads I've seen in a while. But then I've never been a fan of "real people making a videogame sound important" technique, show game footage to a cool soundtrack.

I love the gameplay in the first one. The first couple of levels were kind of blah but it really picked up after that, and it was also rather lengthy for a single player game nowdays, which I liked. The varied creative weapons made situations a lot of fun to play through.

I sort of wish I HAD ordered the Collectors edition, because the Chimera figure IS cool looking.

Something I wondered about recently... so the Chimera are basically this animal like race of aliens, but somehow are able to have technology far superior to ours. Where are all the Chimeran scientists and engineers that research and design and build all the cool toys they have? I guess they must be back on the Chimeran home planet, and the soldiers are the dumb ones they send to take over planets.

I'm in for the Collector's edition on this. I'm more excited for this game after IGN gave it a 9.5.

Wait, I thought the soldiers are all humans, status-post infection and processing. The badass hybrids, like that figure above are the result of several people's corpses. I assume whatever the Chimera are, they're off somewhere else sending out infectious bugs from their home planet.

Er... I think you're right about that. It's been awhile since I've played Resistance.

Another game I need to buy and have sit on my shelf as I finish others.

Too many good games

This game sounds cool but I wish there was a demo. The first Resistance demo was awful, to me.

The IGN review makes this game sound great but it bugs me a bit that it's apparently shorter than its predecesor.

What's the deal with so many short games lately? I normally don't mind if the game is so much fun I'll play it over and over again but with how pricey games are, it's a bit harder to willingly open up my wallet. :(

SuperBatMan 11-02-08 04:17 PM

Just another of a list of games I want while trying to save money. I really wish they would space this shit out every year.

Bluelitespecial 11-02-08 04:55 PM

I'll get it eventually once I make it through the first one.

That reminds me that I haven't finished the first one either. I dunno why, either. Last I recall, I'm at (what I think is) the final level of the game. I better finish it to get me primed for the second one.

I was gonna get Fallout3 first but I think this needs to be above that in the list after reading some positive reviews.

?

It takes ~240 hours to complete this game.

I've been playing the online beta deathmatches.

The levels are amazing.

The weapons are too weak for my taste.

Isn't it great how it works? Nothing comes out in the summer then October and November hit and AAA titles are popping up like buildings in Mercenaries 2.

 I might have said "motorcyclists" instead, but yeah, I get what you mean.

According to the IGN review, Resistance 2 is shorter than Resistance: Fall of Man, taking about 10 hours to beat. But at least that's epic compared to the ridiculously short length of games like Quantum Of Solace.

It just seems like every new game of which I read a review lasts around ten hours or less. I know action games shouldn't last 80 hours but I'd hope for something closer to 20 when I'm shelling out so much for games these days.

Regardless, the IGN review has me sold and I'm picking up Resistance 2 when it streets.

bdshort 11-03-08 09:21 PM

The 240 hour estimate includes the time it supposedly takes to max out every single class in co-op as well.

... as well as the time for the initial Hard Drive install and the required PSN update.

Amazon just shipped my R2 Collector's Edition and I should get it tomorrow. Can't wait!

RocShemp 11-03-08 11:44 PM

Finally beat the first one (just in time for the sequel). :D

RocShemp 11-04-08 10:23 AM

Is this game out today or tomorrow?
