Do they have yellow stars next to their name? If so, they are elite and will be tough to beat solo.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
You don't have to do every mission. In fact, if you do EVERYTHING you'll find yourself overleveled for every area. Since you aren't interested in grouping, I would suggest simply dropping the "Heroic" quests.

Explain to me why this would be a bad thing. Serious question because I really don't know. |

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
Finally did a group mission last night. It really was quite a bit of fun. Sucks being the noob who doesn't know what he's doing but fun none the less.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
Now that they have a "Friend invite" program - for a 7 day trial - anyone willing to offer up an invite? I am still a bit on the fence if I want to play this game, and would love to try for a few days.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
PM me your email address and I'll send you over an invite.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
This ended up being a great single player game/story. Haven't enjoyed many of the operations or flashpoints at all.

I played an Imperial Agent to 50 and really enjoyed the story and I love the Operative class! Reminds me alot of my Rogue in WoW. I'm looking forward to going back and playing some of the other classes just to experience their story but I'm going to wait until 1.2 comes out. I want to see what they are going to do with the Legacy system. Having fun with PvP doing Warzones. I like how they each require teamwork in order to win...I just wish their open PvP zones like Illum were designed a little better. I want something similar to Wintergrasp in WoW. |
Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
The game's on sale at Amazon for $20:
http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-The-.../dp/B001CWXAP2 According to the LA Times, they will open to game to "free-to-play" up to level 15 in July: http://www.latimes.com/entertainment...,1394173.story |
Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
Wow, how quickly this tanked. Going free to play to level 50.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
It went F2P until level 15 on 7/10, just about 2 weeks ago:
http://kotaku.com/5924830/star-wars-...evels-for-free Is the assumption that a game will stay subscription-only as long as it has enough paying subscribers, and only go F2P (even partially) when the subscriber numbers drop? There's not the possibility that they still have high subscription numbers, but they want to draw in even more players by making the lower levels F2P (presumably after enough time has past for current subscribers to get above the levels going F2P)? |
Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
Kotaku reports that EA said in an investors call today that TOR has "well over" 500,000 subscribers, but under 1 million subscribers now:
http://kotaku.com/5930634/star-wars-...on-subscribers Here's a transcript of the call, with the relevant quote: http://files.shareholder.com/downloa...ript_FINAL.pdf First, the game many of you have been tracking closely, Star Wars: The Old Republic. Although it launched well, subscriptions have been on a declining trajectory and have now slipped below one million. Last year we announced that the breakeven point was roughly 500,000 subscribers. And while we are well above that today, that’s not good enough. The message from players exiting the game is clear – 40 percent say they were turned off by the monthly subscription. And many indicated they would come back if we offered a free-to-play model. Our plan now is to pivot and provide a two-tiered pricing plan which will make the game more accessible and grow the audience. The new pricing will go into effect in November. The first tier is a Premium Players membership for Star Wars fans who want everything the game has to offer. For $15 a month, Premium Players will receive comprehensive access to the game plus monthly infusions of in-game currency which can be used for boosts, customization and for moving more quickly through each level. The second tier is a free-to-play option which allows consumers to experience the first 50 levels at no charge, but with some restrictions on content and advanced player features. Upgrades to the experience can be purchased with in-game currency. Players will move at their own speed and comfort level. If and when they’re ready, they can easily switch to the Premium tier. Additionally, we are introducing new pricing next week in North America and Europe. Beginning August 6, Star Wars: The Old Republic will retail for $14.99 – essentially offering the first month [of Premium access] free. |
Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
I know of a lot of people who left the game, but none of them did it because of the subscription fee.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
Meh, this game is dead to me. Doubt anything would bring me back, especially not by making it F2P.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
The graphics are pretty good but I'm just not into mmo's.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
i'll probably do with this what i did with dc universe. play it for about a month, get bored and forget about it. but it's a month's worth of gaming that i don't have to pay for.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
I played when this first came out and IMO, it was pretty bad
|
Re: Star Wars: The Old Republic
It wasn't that bad. Basically it is a single player game in an MMO space. Think of it as an extension of Knights of the Old Republic games.
I am still a subscriber although I don't have much time to play. This is good news to me because now I can play the "story" all the way to 50 without having to keep my sub active (and then feeling guilty about it when I don't have time to play). |
