Far Cry 2
Far Cry 2 comes out tonight. I must say, I'm excited. I loved the first one, and it was awesome creating a map that was good enough that people were playing it in random games I would jump into.
Playing online should be a blast. Am I the only one ready for Far Cry? |
I'm chomping at the bit for it. I just hope we got our copies in today. I go on vacation tomorrow and don't want to leave my house for 10 days. I was looking forward to plowing through this game, mercs 2, force unleashed and mass effect (finally).
The more gameplay videos I watch, the more excited I get. :D |
Can't wait for this game. Loved Far Cry on the PC, but wasen't a fan of FC: instincts on the console. Hopefully the controls on the 360 version are good... thats the only thing im worried about.... and that Ubi Soft made this and not Crytec. But all the videos i've seen just look awesome
|
The PC version of Farcry was alot of fun. I am skipping this one until it's around $25 or so. I have too much on my plate already.
|
Is it streeting today or tmw.? BB had it in the weekly ad for 2pm Wedneday.
|
Will be picking this up today or tomorrow with a return from the Toys R Us
B2G1 promo. (hoping Midnight Club is out today too). |
I've got it pre-ordered on Steam. I think it becomes available on there tomorrow afternoon. I wish they would have allowed pre-loading, but they didn't. So, depending on how fast the download is, I might be playing it tomorrow night. When I downloaded Warhead and Clear Sky off Steam, they only took an hour or two, but I didn't get them on launch day.
I've been looking forward to it. It looks more like what I wanted Stalker's world to be like. Completely open, with no artificial barriers. |
This game looks GREAT. I've seen lots of commercials for it, so they are pushing it hard. TOO many good games this month though
|
I've been playing it casually for the last week and I'm not to happy with it. I guess theres a point in gaming where not having enough direction ruins the game, and Far Cry 2 hit that point. You get tossed into this huge world with no idea of what to do and are expected to have fun. Guns break, cars are slow, some guys in shorts and white shirts shoot you, other guys in shorts and white shirts do not. It just seems like a Saint's Row/GTA game, without all the fun and missions....and every enemy looks the same...and takes a clip to kill....
Call me crazy, but give me a shooter where I travel from A to B and kill tons of people along the way. Save the open world business for RPG/Sandbox games. |
^^^ Ugh. Not good. Open world is fine as long as you're given some direction; otherwise I should be able to go to the end boss' house, cap him and see the credits roll.
|
This LOOKS awesome but what are the reviews saying?
I'm not a big online multiplayer player but the concept may be compelling enough for me to pick this up... |
PC Gamer gave it a 94, apparently. The review is supposed to be in the next issue, but I don't have it yet. Gamerankings lists 4 reviews right now. They range from 80-90% so far. All from UK magazines. I haven't seen an online review yet.

I am actually in the super small camp that doesn't like GTA/sandbox games. I was worried this would be too aimless for my tastes. |
I am picking this up today and looking forward to it. To be honest i disagree with the user who said they just want a simple A to B format shooting people along the way. That style grew old with Doom and these days it just doesn't cut it. Call of Duty 4 does a good job of making a linear storyline interesting, but i still loved the open planning of the original Far Cry. I like the idea of being able to travel in any direction and make your own story. Oblivion did a great job of this and made sure that each game would be different (although clocking up 200 +) on my first game its not one i will be replaying from the beginning many times. I think the sandbox style can work as long as there are things to do along the way. This was one reason why i grew bored of Just Cause very quickly. Huge landscape and nothing to do in it. I like the idea of guns jamming and things being a little bit more realistic. I have high hopes for the game.

As long as there is an A to B, the world can be actual size, as long as a somewhat linear option is in place.

I've only played the multi-player so far...
1. It takes WAY too many shots to kill someone. It's horribly frustrating. 2. The modes are fun, but there aren't many of them. 3. The level editor is a bitch to use at first, but I think I'm getting the hang of it. So far, it's just...okay. Most of that is because of the frustration among trying to actually kill someone with less than a clip. = J |

Well to be honest any and every sandbox game has an A-B.....they are called missions. I am just refering to totally linear games where you cannot stray from the path and are forced to go directly from A to B. As i mentioned with Oblivion you were given tasks to complete and places to go. Whether you went to them straight away...or never at all was totally your call. I am assuming that Far Cry 2 will be the same. If you want the story to progress then you will be forced to visit certain locales and people. This type of games tends to provide more value for money and longer game times. Linear games tend to be over in no time at all. Each person has their own tastes, its just that i want more from my FPS than simply moving in one direction and shooting.

Well i played Far Cry 2 last night and loved it. The graphics are very nice indeed and i had a blast blowing the crap out of things. It feels more realistic than most FPS and i love the way that fire moves and can affect things around you. I am very happy with the way this game has turned out and just hope that a third one gets produced. A lot of time and effort has gone into making this a different experience. The healing yourself is a nice touch, the buddy system is good, the lighting effects are awesome and the weapons feel solid. If you are on the fence about this game then just buy it...you will not be disappointed.
|
Also i don't get where people are having problems unloading a full clip just to kill one guy. I am mowing guys down with a few shots per person. I am a FPS addict though, so maybe i am hitting more head shots than most or something. I like the fact that you still have to be careful as guys can still recover if you have not fully killed them.

I only played this a little last night, since I wanted to finish Dead Space first. The game seems pretty cool, from the little I played. It runs really well on my PC (2.66 dual core, 8800GTS, 2GB RAM, Vista 64), with all the settings maxed at 1920x1200. I like the destructible foliage and the ability to start big fires. I also like that I can go do a mission how I want. Hopefully it stays fun. I'm going to play it a lot more tonight.

It was my biggest complaint about the single player experience with Uncharted and multi with Halo. |
Wow, this thread is dead for such a kick-ass new release.
Yeah, I know, there's a bunch of great games that have been coming out, but this is among them and should be talked about more. Anyways, here's the GS exclusive code for 6 bonus missions (360 version only): 1 - Go to the game's main menu 2 - Access "additional content", then "promotional content" 3 - Enter: 2Tuw5esw The code is case sensitive, I believe. It's one code for all, so it should work for everyone. Not sure how or when you get the missions in the game though. |
I've been having fun with it. My stats say I'm at 50% completion. I'm assuming that's counting everything, like finding all the suitcases and whatnot. I've enjoyed setting Africa on fire. Nothing like setting large fires around a base, and watching everything burn. Most of the missions are pretty fun, and it's a huge world. I just started chapter 2. The ending to chapter 1 was pretty exciting. Now it's opened up a whole other map of places to go.
The buddy thing is pretty cool. The first time I "died" and a buddy came and saved me, it was pretty cool. The 3rd and 4th time, it got a little old, since you have to wait for them to get you to a safe spot, but it's better than having to load the last save. One thing that gets annoying sometimes, is actually getting to the missions. I think I could do with fewer checkpoints on the roads, and not being kill on site to everyone all the time. You can travel around a lot of them, but sometimes you can't. I understand the need to make traveling the map interesting, but sometimes I just want to do the mission, and not fight to get to the mission. Other than that, the game has been fun, and it runs really well on my PC. |
