Glass Joe seems to be the hardest in the Minor Circuit Title Defense, oddly enough. I've breezed through Joe, Kaiser, Disco Kid, and Hippo this afternoon. Piston Hondo looks kinda difficult from what I've seen in Practice mode.

I played it over a friend's house last night. I got up to Bald Bill before I had to leave. I was kinda shocked over how easy most of the fighters were, but from what I understand, the Title Defense mode is a whole new ballgame.

Re: King Hippo is back! (i.e. New Punch-Out game for the Wii)

Played for about an hour just now, and defeated TD Piston Hondo and Bear Hugger. Hondo wasn't that hard once you learn his patterns and start watching his hands for when he's going to throw a punch.

Epic fight with Bear Hugger though. Knocked him down 3 times through about 2:30 remaining in the third, and proceeded to get knocked down 3 times myself in that time b/c of mistiming his damn 'Catch and Release' hug. The third time was with about 4 seconds left, and I nearly threw the controller, only to think 'MASH 1 AND 2!!' and thankfully avoided the TKO and barely won by decision. Woo. Time for a break before TD Great Tiger.

Got up to Super Macho Man so far.....just have to get down the timing for him otherwise he's not too bad :P

Just beat his ass and am parked at Mr. Sandman trying to figure him out in practice mode....Seems I should just uppercut him a lot while he's preparing to hit me and just avoid those side punches.

To update my progress, not that anyone cares, but up to TD Soda Popinski now. Tiger was a pretty fun fight and you had to really pay attention and use visual clues. Flamenco was a pain in the ass(although apparently there's a tactic to use where he's really easy), and I think I won by decision. Aran Ryan was pretty easy if you know the easy KO tactic. Played Soda once in practice and got my ass absolutely handed to me. I might be finding my wall on the difficulty soon.

I love what they did with Aran Ryan in this game. He is batshit crazy. He was pretty lame in Super Punch Out, and I was disappointed when I heard that he was one of the characters in the Wii game, but now he is one of my favorite characters. Anyone notice that he always gets up on the count of 7. Luck of the Irish I guess.

I'm playing through for the first time and haven't had too many issues. I'm up to Bald Bull, but I think my toughest match was Great Tiger.

I made it up to the Piston Hondo TD fight and stopped there. I loved the King Hippo TD fight.

So what's everyone's consensus on the motion controls? Love it or hate it?

I liked the motion controls, but I am way better using the remote the old school way.

I got to Flamenco and he kicked my ass. Is there a trick for beating him? So much for the old left-right-left-right knockout

There is an infinite loop combo in the Wii game as well. It is more complicated than the NES game.

Spoiler:

Provoke him so that he attacks, dodge, then do five alternating left-right punches to the face. After the fifth punch, do a body punch with the opposite hand. Then do a face punch with the hand opposite of the body punch. Keep repeating the opposing body-face punches over and over.

If that is a little difficult to understand, here is a video showing how it is done:

the motion controls are flat out FUN. But i think in order to get better response and timing, classic controller is better. All depends on how fast your muscle fibers twitch, I guess.

I just wanted to comment on how much I LOVE the exhibition "challenge" mode. It's a great way to break up the monotony of getting your butt kicked by one guy over and over again. Just when you're about to hurl your remote at the TV, just go fight some guys in exhibition and it will cheer you up.

Finally put this one in the slot last night (pun intended) and it is a fun time! There's nothing revolutionary about it, but I totally dig the motion controls. Mind you I only went through the first circuit before Killzone2 sucked me in, but I am liking it a lot.

Re: King Hippo is back! (i.e. New Punch-Out game for the Wii)

Got past TD Soda Popinski and Bald Bull. I still feel that the game hasn't got insanely hard. Once you get the patterns down, don't get an itchy trigger finger, and run into some luck every now and then, you'll get by most of the guys. Messed around with TD Super Macho Man, who doesn't seem too difficult either. EDIT- Defeated TD SMM in the first round on about the sixth or seventh try. Time to take down Mr. Sandman!

I can't wait to get through TD and start working solely on the challengers. Only unlocked contender Hippo's audio gallery so far.

Pretty fun so far.

Timings always been my weakness... so its taking me awhile. I'm 5-2 and stuck on Bear Hugger.

Trying to get past his little hug thing.

My buddy played it and got to Great Tiger without a prob... but I didn't see him beat Bear Hugger (fell asleep).

There is another mode unlocked after TD... Last Stand mode. Make sure to try it out for a little surprise.

I played Head-to-Head with my 5-year-old son.

Button mashers suck.

But luckily I won 2 out of 3.

Re: King Hippo is back! (i.e. New Punch-Out game for the Wii)

Just beat TD Sandman after an EPIC comeback. I knocked him down first in the first round, then he got me down twice before the end of the round due to my stupidity, and I starting losing all hope thinking 'here we go again'. I get him down once in the second and escape without getting knocked down again. Only needed one hit to knock him down for the third time, so I dodged his first wink punch and down he went. Next comes his insane barrage, which I screwed up twice previously. I timed it all perfectly, he's stunned, beat the crap out of his face, get 2 stars, and let it rip! NEW CHAMPION!

I think I will savior in the moment before I go onto Last Stand.
