I tried hooking the RB2 kick pedal into the GH kit but it didn't recognize it. Damn.

I haven't had any problems with the yellow pad yet.

I think I may be kicking too hard as the RB pedal seems to need more pressure to register.

Also can't use the GH kit in RB2 on the PS3 which is being fairly widely reported. Good times. Glad I didn't go with my original plan of game only RB2.

Probably one of my biggest complaints, along with it not being very obvious when someone is failing. A lot of times after someone fails you literally have no idea what happened or who's fault it even was. I hope they improve this somehow.

I'm currently trying to decide if I should go out and buy the bundle and increase my ridiculously unfeasible amount of plastic instruments even further...

Yeah, I tried the touch pad in NSTB and got to a nice flashing red pretty quick. I got a little bit better hang of it though later on, but I still think I won't be using the touch pad much.

My drums seem to work okay (certainly no problems with the Yellow, Red did drop a few but I think it was my fault). I also haven't had the double/triple strum thing when using the touchpad, or at least I haven't noticed it. Might be a difference between the PS3 and 360 versions

Good to know Oklahoman is at least decipherable by Texans. Maybe you can pass it on through NM so that it can wrap around the Pacific coastline to the un-American states and those head-flappers up North?

Ouch, no chance I pick up GH now.

Why do you say that? I already posted a detailed experience (with pic) where I used the GHWT kit in RB2, earlier in this thread about a month ago.

It definitely works, I got 99% on Psycho Killer on Expert with the GHWT drums.

RB2 drums for me then.

Sorry - should have been specific - it's the PS3 that is having that problem

Apologies for the confusion.

I'm really glad I read the reviews and this forum before heading out to Best Buy today. I was planning to finally pick up a PS3 and GHWT. I played "Everlong" on Easy on drums and, while I really suck at drums in Rock Band, I'm nowhere near as bad as I did. The yellow cymbal was definitely having issues. Hopefully this gets sorted out quickly and appropriately.

BTW, the Best Buy in Seattle has plenty of Wii and PS3 copies of the full-band version.

cartman 10-26-08 06:58 PM

I feel so odd not caring at all that my 360 red ringed and is out for repair during the release of a new GH game .

XavierMike 10-26-08 08:29 PM

I'm really enjoying this so far. I haven't had much experience with Rock Band, so I can't compare the drums. But, they seem to be working fine-I just need practice. I love the new guitar though. And, I'm having a more difficult time with vocals then I thought I would. I'm sure my neighbors love me. :)

And, I don't really care for the single player interface.

vwbeetlvr 10-26-08 08:33 PM

my xbox drums are outta whack. The red pad doesn't work like 1/4 of the time and i have to hit it super hard. I don't think i'll get used to using them with rockband. I think I have to keep both sets of drums once i get the guitar hero ones fixed.

Anyone else have the guitar problems that are described in the IGN review? The touchpad registering hits when the player isn't even touching the guitar?

I got the guitar pack earlier today and just played about 10 songs with it. No problems at all on my end so far. The only issue I had was overdrive/star power going off by itself sometimes just like it does on my Les Paul. I do tend to hold the neck a little high when playing but I figured they had that worked out by now. Hell, my RB2 quitar works perfectly as far as overdrive is concerned.

So good and some bad things on the new guitar. The heavierness (is that a word?) is much better as is the larger size. It feels and hold like a RB guitar which is a good thing. I always feel like I am moving to a ukulele when I move from my RB guitars to the Les Paul. Don't feel that way anymore.

The click in the strum bar is still there but doesn't seem as loud as the Les Paul. It doesn't bother me but I do tend to prefer the quietness of a RB guitar. The buttons feel the same but I don't really care for where they placed the star power button. It feels more natural on the RB guitar. It is better than location of the back button on the LP but it still feels a little off when compared to the RB guitars.

The whammy bar is longer and better than the LP. Still prefer the whammy on the RB guitars though.

The sliding buttons are really cool and work in theory. The problem they have is the same problem I have with the RB solo buttons. They are so far down the neck that once you get you hand placed and try them out, you have fucked up most of the song and then fuck up trying to get back the regular buttons. But the slider spots are much easier to use and much better spaced than the smallish, cramps solo buttons on the RB guitars.

I tried it on The Joker and it is very cool sliding around the guitar once you get a hang on it. But then again, I fucked the song finding my way there and then fucked myself finding my way back when the sliding section was over. What's really strange is there are spots on that song and others where there is a place to slide kinda randomly and would be seemingly impossible to use the siding button unless you are a master like Rabbit77. To jump down there for a couple of notes and then jump right back to the regular buttons...well, it would take A LOT of practice to get it just right. But the sliding is fun...it will just take knowing the song and the section to do it in and like I said A TON of practice to get it right without screwing up the entire area of it.

Another thing about sliding notes...they can seemingly fuck up your timing. Or at least they did for me on the several songs that had it in. I seemed to watch the lines between notes when they popped up and it would just screw me up even when I was staying put on the upper buttons. Hopefully it is becase it is something new to look at and I will soon look past that.

I don't see anyone using the sliding buttons if they want to score well but just fucking around on a quickplay song that has a lot of sliders in there...definitely cool and fun once you get the hang of the timing.

I still can't make up my mind whether I like the raised buttons on the GH guitars or the level buttons on the RB guitars. It seems to affect me differently depending on the songs sometimes.

Other than that...I had fun playing the few songs I had time for. I just quickplayed those and didn't delve into the career or band modes yet. I did check out the GHTunes section and that is fucking cool! Some dud had uploaded the Halloween theme and there was already a lot of stuff on there to check out...and the game just came out! i look forward to seeing what others do. I have no interest in making music myself but I will gladly enjoy the spoils of someone else's hard work!

There was also a message saying that there were two rock packs to download to celebrate today's launch. I looked around and couldn't find them. I checked all over the downloads section but I must be overlooking them. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Anyone tried the original RB drum set on GH:WT yet? Isn't it supposed to be compatible?

And "Beat It" fucking rocks!

Spiderbite 10-26-08 09:08 PM

Oh...and one other strange thing. You have to change the sound to Dolby Digital manually in the options menu but it tells you that it may affect your performance or something like that. anyone had an issue with that. I changed mine after I had already played the songs so haven't tried it with DD yet.

tcoursen 10-26-08 09:36 PM

My drums seem to work ok. I wasn't getting any dropped hits.

I did try the little tutorial thing that they have. And when they were explaining the notes where you can hit it harder to get more points, they wanted me to hit it 4 times. It didn't register for me after trying it like three times. I was definately hitting it harder and it wasn't registering.

Anybody else notice that? In the songs it registers the hit of the note, but I don't know if it is recognizing the speed. Unless I am like the ultimate wussy and just don't hit the thing hard enough.

I had the same message. I had decided to hold off on the game and then I went to Best Buy and played On the Road again and Hotel California with a little kid. So I decided what the hell I like the new guitar and would be nice to have two wireless guitars for Rock Band. So far I like a lot of the songs but I think Rock Band is a much better game. I also got some weird feedback on my stereo with the volume up kind of loud. I have not had that issues before with the previous Guitar Hero or Rock Band games.

RichC2 10-26-08 10:10 PM

Damn you Danny Carey and your love for off-beats in drums.

dsa_shea 10-26-08 10:14 PM

So do the GHWT drums play without any problems while using them on RB2? Do you think the dropped yellow and red notes are more of a software problem rather than a hardware problem? Hopefully it is something that can easily be fixed with this rumored sensitivity adjuster that they're supposed to be working on. I'm playing ok with the new drums but I'm sure having to pound the hell out of them to get it to register most of the notes.

Liver&Onions 10-26-08 11:30 PM

i picked up game only tonight, and will be trying it out on drums shortly. I hope the tool songs are available right away.

fumanstan 10-26-08 11:36 PM

More reviews are coming out and all of them much more favorable then the IGN review -

http://www.metacritic.com/games/plat...20world%20tour

It just sucks about the widespread instrument issues, since that's what I was most looking forward to. I think i'll wait and make sure those are ironed out. I can't believe these sort of QC issues would happen for such a big release.

bunkaroo 10-26-08 11:45 PM

Well I'll tell you I am taking this whole piece of junk bundle back this week.

Besides the drum issues my red and yellow fret buttons are sticking like mad after only 4-5 hours of use. Total garbage.

Since I went and got a box last night even though I had a kit coming from Amazon, I'm thinking my best bet is to get the sealed box from Amazon, take that back to Best Buy unopened for less hassle, then return the open one to Amazon as defective. I'll pick up the game disc by itself as the RB2 instruments actually work.

It's funny too, because I thought the RB1 instruments were garbage vs. the GH3 controller. What a difference a year makes.

porieux 10-26-08 11:50 PM

I got the bundle, so far my drums are perfect and every bit as fun as I remember. Fortunately the pedal has some kind of non slip material on the bottom which seems to be keeping it from sliding around, which is great. Definitely have had no problem keeping nice long streaks going so far, which is surprising since I didn't even calibrate. Probably because I am so used to the tight Rock Band timing window..

I find the snare and toms really satisfying to hit for some reason, I really like how solid they feel. Very interested to try the MIDI in option at some point.

Guitar looks nice, but I haven't tried it yet.

thelwig14 10-27-08 12:03 AM

After about 10 hours or so of play, I love the game. Is it as good as RB? No, and it is a distinct second place. But it is a ton of fun with some great songs and a few advantages over RB. I don't get into the fanboy stuff, but they are perfect compliments to each other to me.

edstein 10-27-08 12:06 AM

My BB was sold out of the 360 full sets when I got there at 5pm today. They did however have about 12-15 PS3 sets. I then tried Walmart. They had only 1 360 set out of 5 total left. People came in early that morning and the said that they did not receive any sets. The shipment came later in the afternoon. I felt pretty lucky to get mine.

No problems so. The guitar is really good, even better than the LP IMO. The really like the drums. I'm only a medium/hard drummer. I like the cymbal location and the rebound feel of all the pads. Haven't gotten into the game too far yet but I did manage to unlock Billy Corgan and the Tool venue. At least now people who have GH:WT will recognize my tatoo.

mdc3000 10-27-08 12:09 AM

Well, I'm underwhelmed. The interface is beyond clunky IMO and navigating etc. is kind of a bitch... I like that the character creator has lots of options, but sometimes I just want to scroll through actual faces or noses etc., not adjusting all sorts of traits of them...plus not being able to change the face while seeing their hair is weak... took me a while to make my chick not look hideous (the default was pretty ugly if you ask me).

I don't like that people can't be saved during band play...also I have yet to figure out who has star power during band play (or does just the band as a whole get it...looking at the display, I can't tell)... and my big pet peeve is that the unlocking of songs is INSTRUMENT SPECIFIC... that = EPIC FAIL IMO. I plowed through a few gigs in guitar to unlock stuff like No Doubt, Sublime and Paramore so my sister could sing on them...no such luck. That is mega bullshit (glad to see the cheat code on here).

The quickplay list is hard as hell to read and I prefer the old setlist way of doing things... My main beef is that Rock Band 2 brought so much to the plate with Band World Tour, Battle of the Bands and the awesome Challenges that GH:WT feels stale right out of the gate... it's solo mode isn't nearly as fun as rocking a Challenge. They had the chance to wow me but they really didn't... I was fully hoping to love this one. It's still decent but doesn't hold a candle to Rock Band 2 IMO. If you have BOTH, like I do, then you get the best of both worlds and some of the songs here are really great...but if a friend was only going to buy 1, I'd have to say RB2.

I also like the guitar a lot but will probably NEVER use the slider...I found it to be a little awkward for my liking. When I bought just the guitar bundle a few people were snickering wondering why anyone wouldn't buy the full kit... apparently they have never heard of Rock Band drums... I really hope their cymbals fucking break :)
