I now know addiction and thy name is PEGGLE!

Jeez, this game has completely sucked me in. Being a big pinball fan, it has a great mix of skill and chance that pinball gives you. Add the Price Is Right game "Plinko" to the stew and call it instant crack.

I take it back that this is overpriced at 10 bucks. I like the game so much that I will likely spring the 30 bucks for the DS version as well.

I like looking at the leaderboards but I don't have many friends with this game. So if you have it and want to send me a friend request, please do. I would like to try the MP option as well.

I had zero problems with the $10 on this one. My problem was choosing XBLA or DS. The XBLA demo sold me so that was an immediate(and easy) purchase. I too will spring for the DS version as well. Probably after I finish the challenges/achievements in the XBLA version.

I wouldn't count on finishing the challenges in Peggle. Those are seriously extreme.

But are they X-treme? To the MAXX?

Re: XBLA Thread Part thrizzee (3)

I have already played thru the Adventure mode twice and have done several of the challenges. What's funny is my first time thru I scored over 17 million and didn't really pay any attention to the points or special balls at all. I was just going along with it.

Then I see the achievement for 20 million points and the #1 player on the leaderboards has 30 million or so. I thought, "Shit, 17 mill on my first try when I wasn't even paying attention...hell, I could be number 1 at this game!" Cut to last night. I ran thru the game over the course of two days and scored only 14 million. :(

Granted I was doing the special balls at random each time. I also had no idea that you got an extra 4 million points by doing it all in one sitting until I saw a previous post here. Putting it on pause won't muck that up will it? As long as you don't go back to the main menu, you should be okay, correct?

My next goal will be doing it all in one sitting and choosing my special balls carefully instead of doing the random thing. What's funny is it would pick the damn unicorn for me to use at times and I would sometimes do better with it than the Zen or Fire balls. Go figure.

I don't care for the unicorn balls. I prefer the owl, dragon or rabbit balls. What balls do you prefer?

No, these are, in fact, your grandma's extreme.

I'm such a Peggle addict, that I bought it for the DS and wasted 2 hours at work playing it - thank God for the economic slowdown - probably the only instance you'll hear that.

Review for Hasbro Family Game Night is up.

Individual reviews:

Battleship : 6.0

Connect Four : 7.5

Scrabble : 7.7

Yatzee : 8.0

I'm still getting Scrabble & Yatzee, but I'm completely shocked that there's no single-player Scrabble option. Considering you have to let any local player see your board, the only real choice is to play online and that could get ugly. I was hoping that it could help my daughter learn how to play, but I guess not.

Re: XBLA Thread Part thrizzee (3)

It looks like there is single-player in Scrabble, there's just no CPU opponent (you play solo).

I just can't get excited about those Hasbro games, especially at 800 points each.
If it was 800 points for the whole lot, maybe....even then I would think twice.

Eventually there'll be a disc with all 7 titles on it for $20-$40. I'll look for it then.

No CPU opponents in Scrabble? :whofart:

Also, only the standard play mode for most games? The $10 bargain bin Ultimate Yahtzee PC game that I've had for years has normal Yahtzee, Triple Yahtzee, Painted Yahtzee, Battle Yahtzee, and Pyramid Yahtzee.

does Scrabble have at least online opponents?

According to the review, yes. Also from the review:

Sounds like Battleship has no online component from that review... That can't be right!

No, it can't be. I think they just left the online talk off the Battleship and C4 reviews. Yahtzee barely has a mention.

They had two or three play Yatzee modes, but I forgot what the other ones were.

It's kinda weird, all these games are so simplistic, but with this fancy front end (including different (free) room themes to download. It's all very nice and pretty, but the games themselves are so barebones. It's sorta backwards.

pinata242 03-18-09 11:52 AM

Re: XBLA Thread Part thrizzee (3)

^ I would have had no problem paying $40 for the room if that guaranteed access to any and all content they put out for it.

That's an interesting choice of screen caps given the letters shown and how they are arranged.
