Rocky - the new coaster is much better!

I don't know if it's a bug or if nobody is tagging my newer level, but it doesn't have any adjective tags associated with it. My first level does, though.

When you see someone playing on your friend list in game how do you ask them if they want to co-op? Also if I'm not playing online can people on my friend list still join me or at least contact me or is that turned off. hmmm can you even send messages ingame?

I just tried out your new coaster and I have to say that it is a bit... sticky in parts. Definitely better than before though. Just a thought, but you could make the wheels motorized rather than using a rocket. Look at this thread at the workshop for some ideas.

Is there a tutorial somewhere on how to make music? I've seen levels created where these small blocks emit tone as you pass in a vehicle) or when they are knocked over, but I can't seem to get it to work.

Another thought would be to use motorized cogs on the uphill and have them pull the roller-coaster car up the hill, then let it free-roll down and up the next one - it would have to get much smoother to be able to pull that off though - maybe make the rails out of glass?

Thanks! Mine didn't for a while either but now it does. That is strange - I know I tagged your level.

Thanks, but I'm going to leave it as is. If I keep tweaking it I'll never get anything else done. Right now it works, and I actually like the herky-jerk - it's like being rattled around in a car on an old wooden coaster. I'm going to start on the next park soon - maybe I'll incorporate your cog idea on my "Superman" coaster.

BTW, when are we gonna see a level from you?

I re-ran your coaster this morning, and this time it was smoother. I must have been sitting a bit off-center last time, causing it to stick.

I'm working on a level that I have high hopes for. My first idea is on the back burner - I don't know if I can make it as good as I want it. My second idea just plain wouldn't work - though I may revisit it as I get more familiar with the various options/tools. This one should be good if I can get a good theme lined up for it.

C-Mart...

Glad the coaster ran better for you. I only took it through the paces twice yesterday before I published it. I will have some new challenges in the second park and make them a little more perilous - I saw two of the labels I got for the first one were "Boring" and "Empty". Oh well, you can't please everybody! BTW, I like the invisible mechanism trick with a thin layer - I may try to incorporate that somewhere that makes sense.

Let us know when your site's up and we'll play it!

I don't believe you can make music - you have to use what they give you via earning them in the Story mode. There are also sounds that can be placed like music. Check my level out and you'll hear what I used - Rocky's Park of Adventure. My coaster has screams and creaks stuck on it, the flume has splash noise on the wave objects, and three of my rides have their own theme music.

Just a general tip for those getting into level design - it might help to start a "junk" level where you just play around with concepts, vehicles, etc. Start with something small and get the hang of the creation tools. My first level was essentially a simple machine, and it helped me figure out a lot of the quirks in how things work. It made my second level more manageable to make.

Also, for the music levels, most of them use the little sound items tweaked to different pitches. They're triggered by a proximity sensor that moves along the level on a vehicle which travels at a constant speed. The end result is a midi-style song. Seems like designing one of those would take a LOT of patience but the basic concept behind it is fairly straightforward.

There is a user-created level called "Acoustic (Hey There Delilah)" where it has domino-like blocks that fall over and play the tune. I'm trying to figure out how it was done, as I have an idea that uses this process.

I've got a theme... and I think it could be awesome. I won't spoil it - though I wish I could ask for help on my various puzzles, tasks, etc... I'm just not that good at making puzzles... I'm really stuck on coming up with my first riddle - I have the answer, just not the riddle. Now I'm jonesing to work on it, but I'm stuck at work.

Hey guys...

Ever think of "farming out" parts of your levels, at least devices, to others here? My project manager's hat is on.

Agree 100%. My junkyards are still lying around and are great testing grounds. That's how I figured out the new coaster car. The best thing is, if you build something that works all you have to do is save it to your goodies bag and you can use it when you want!

I did it on accident myself, but haven't figured out how to do it again.

The netwrok absolutely sucked tonight. Wacky glitches and voice chat going in and out were only some of the problems. It has been a few weeks since release and the user base can't be as big as MM hoped for so what is the problem? Get your shit straight or get off the planet.

Don't forget - every Thursday at the PSN Store is new DLC! Today's freebie is "Sack-In-The-Box" - a TV set mask and a remote! The pay content is Loco Roco costumes - I'm buying those!

No paid content for me, but I do check each week and get all the free ones.

Anyone else going to try and make a level for the PlayStation contest?

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/...d-anniversary/

I had an idea for my third level a while back and I may try and make a few slight changes so that it fits the theme. You have until 12/9 to publish and submit your level.

I've decided that for my second park, it won't be a safe haven. ALL of the rides are gonna be dangerous, and I'm going to give it a dark, gloomy, and condemned look! "Boring" indeed!

Hey Rocky, I saw the "Boring" tag on your level and was confused. Not every level should be loaded with deathtraps. Some of the best levels are the ones that are unique and not just typical platformer stages. There will always be jerks on social games like this, but I wouldn't take it personally. I thought it was really good, especially for a first level.

Unk...

I know, and thanks - it's just that the darn tag is SO big compared to the others!

I am going to make the new rides a bit more challenging though. The "Superman" coaster is going to have a crazy rail that it rides on, but I'm debating whether the cab is going to move or not. I also need to play with acceleration and deceleration - see if I can do that with switches.

Hey, did you ever make a brake for your scat?
