I can't see a 5.9 user rating without a bunch of people throwing a lot of 0 to 4 scores in there. Whether the game is your thing or not, it's hard to argue that it deserves so low of a score. For a game to score that low, I'd say that it would have to be full of problems and just plain poorly made. Even if you don't personally have fun playing the game, it's easy to see via the beta that the game is well-made. I suspect a lot of fanboyism factoring into that "user score", as slop said.

Ignore that "user score". Even those who don't think this game looks like their thing knows better than that.

I seriously doubt that anyone who's already bought the game would go onto metacritic and give it a score below 5.

User reviews are always bullshit. You have fanboys tossing 1-3s and then to compensate actual users over rate.

I understand how people throw low scores for the hell of it. Still, if that's the case, this game seems to be drawing more of that than the typical game. It's obviously a well made game, so I was trying to figure out why this game would draw more than the typical amount of BS scores. Is it the fact it's a PS3 exclusive?

It could be a PS3 exclusive issue.
It could be 360/Wii fanboys being jealous.
It could be PS3 fanboys not wanting to fall into a "Wii" sort of casual mindset.
It could be general douchebaggery that makes hating on popular things cool.

So I have no idea what this game even is, as I don't really follow PS3 games at all, but saw that it got a high score at IGN and found a copy for $40, so ordered it.

What the hell did I just buy?

Do you need the eye thingy to play it?

Well, I am eagerly anticipating this game. I've got my BB gift card from my birthday slowly burning a hole in my wallet (I never let them sit this long!) Good thing my MIL forgot to give it to me or I may have spent it on Force Unleashed or a couple of BR discs before I found out about LBP.

So I have a question for those that have played it... how long will it take to beat the built in levels? Is it necessary to beat them to unlock stuff to build with in the editor?

According to the IGN review, the game could be beaten in 5-6 hours if you just raced from one end to the other, but there is lots to explore and unlock.
You can make levels right away, but the more you play, the more you unlock and can use in your levels.

I ask because I typically like building things, but if I know there is stuff to unlock then I'll probably do that first. Since it is relatively short then it shouldn't be too hard to get most/all of he unlockables.

And this from the official Media Molecule Site:
Linky

As some of you may have noticed, LBP has been slightly delayed in some territories. At MM we were as shocked and dismayed by this as anyone - shellshocked and gutted. We can’t wait for you all to get playing and creating!

We learnt yesterday that there is a lyric in one of the licensed tracks which some people may find offensive, and which slipped through the usual screening processes. Obviously MM and Sony together took this very seriously. LBP should be enjoyable by all. So within 12 hours of hearing about this issue involving a lyric (in Somalian, I believe!), we prepared an automatic day 0 patch and had a new disk image ready; however a decision was made within Sony that the right thing to do for quality and support of people with no on-line was to replace existing disks. They assure us that they are doing everything in their power to get things straightened out as fast as possible, and will announce dates soon.

Apologies to everyone excited to play the game and I can assure you that when it arrives, it will be worth the wait! We want everyone to be able to enjoy the game, and this tweak should help - we’re just gutted it couldn’t be sooner. MM continues to work hard to support the game too. We know that LBP will be something that you can enjoy for a long time to come, when all of this is forgotten and all that remains are thousands of incredible levels and creations to play, create and share.

EDIT: Sony are going to announce new dates and information re discs for each territory soon. We’ll keep you posted! The patch is ready from our side and I imagine it will go live at the same time as the game. More info when we get it.

Oh my God.

I wonder if this means that the copy I picked up at Target last Saturday will now be "rare". It sucks that the servers wont go up like I thought they were going to soon. I wanted to start playing all the created levels on Tuesday.

I've gotta go check out the NeoGAF boards...

EDIT:

Wow Sony, just wow. You finally made strides to get me to play your machine and then this happens.

How long until someone uploads an image of Mohammed with the Playstation Eye into a level and then level creation is nixed?

Just ordered a copy from eBay to hopefully avoid this silly last-minute delay.

I don't speak Somalian so who gives a shit? There are all kinds of bad words tossed around in Spanish in games and there are many people here, including myself, that understand them. Unless they're using the Somalian word for pussy then why make such a big deal about it? Hopefully this delay doesn't affect our "territorial" release.

I think it has more to do with keeping the tomes of a religion sacred to the members of said religion.

Now, I would complain, as a Christian, if some game included music that ripped words from my Bible literally.

Let there be Little Big Planet!
