Marvel's Avengers (9/4/2020: XB1, PC, PS4, Stadia)

Marvel Entertainment and Square Enix announced today a multi-year, multi-game partnership, leading with the reveal of The Avengers project. This newly established partnership pairs the creative minds at Marvel and Square Enix for one of the most powerful alliances in interactive entertainment.

A game based on beloved Marvel heroes, The Avengers project is being crafted by Crystal Dynamics – longtime developers of the award winning Tomb Raider series – in collaboration with lauded Deus Ex developer Eidos-Montréal.

The Avengers project is being designed for gamers worldwide and will be packed with all the characters, environments, and iconic moments that have thrilled longtime fans of the franchise. Featuring a completely original story, it will introduce a universe gamers can play in for years to come. More details on The Avengers project and other games will be announced in 2018.

Kind of a crappy announcement without much information other then a little CG teaser. And no actual game details until 2018?

But the idea of the Tomb Raider and Deus Ex developers working together on Marvel games has me excited that we might actually see some good Marvel based games on par with Batman (along with Insomniac's Spider-man game).

Interesting. I was sort of hoping this announce would be a Thor trailer. :/

Marvel had a great thing going with their Activision games (X-Men, Marvel Ultimate Alliance series). The Spider-Man Shattered dimensions was cool too. After that, I don't remember any other good console Marvel game. Hopefully, this Avengers game will get them on the right track.

I was disappointed they never followed up Ultimate Alliance 2. I look forward to this title!

X-men Origins Wolverine was quite good.

Hopefully this turns out well. I was bummed that Marvel never did an Ultimate Alliance 3 sequel or that DC never did a Justice League Heroes sequel. So I'm hoping this is good.

Also hoping this doesn't cause a new Tomb Raider game to not be made.

Finally an update on the game, which is coming out in 2020. The gamplay seems fun but the characters look like Great Value Avengers, worse of all Thor.

Yikes, that kinda looks awful.
What's the point in going for a hyper-realistic look when you don't have actual actors?

And I don't think the problem with this game is that they didn't secure likeness rights with the MCU actors, it's that the character designs they did go with are ugly. Nobody complains that Tom Holland doesn't appear in the PS4 Spider-Man game.

This is supposed to be a 'live' game similar to Destiny, but you clearly play as one of the main Avengers, so I'm wondering how that's going to work.

The character designs aren't great. At all. And I'm just about done with Nolan North and Troy Baker already. I know people love these guys, but they're so prolific that it almost distracts from everything else when I hear their voices.

The characters look like the Asylum film versions of Avengers. I hope the backlash to the designs is bad enough that Squarenix will go back to the drawing board and fix it.

It's going to be on Google Stadia along with PS4 and Xbox One. And I agree, the character designs look awful.

This takes place in the same universe as Spider-Man PS4, not the MCU, so it's fine that they didn't use the film actors. But yeah, the character models are not great.

I kept thinking I was hearing Baymax whenever Iron Man said something.

Did Thor make a joke? Yeah, but don’t worry about it, Tony.
It wasn’t funny.

I heard that rumor this morning, which people are basing it on Parker's comment in the Spider-Man game that the Avengers are now in the West Coast, and now this game comes out with the Avengers celebrating A-Day in the west coast, but, isn't the Spider-Man PS4 game done by Insomniac Games and this Avengers one done by Squarenix?

It would cost a fortune to license the likeness of all the MCU actors. I get why they had to go with an alternative look for the Avengers.

Not a single person in this thread has complained about them not using MCU actors. They have complained that the designs they went with look like shit.

Meh. The designs do not really bother me. I;m used to comic book game taking the appearance of the characters and redesigning them in different ways so its not a big deal. What I find hilarious is that so many people are saying there done with this game and it looks awful all based on a cinematic trailer and no actual gameplay.

Once again no one is complaining about them taking the appearance of the characters and redesigning them. They are complaining that they look like shit.
