Buy a 40gb PS3 from Wal-mart @ $399, get a $100 giftcard instantly

I can't believe this hasn't shown up here yet. If I missed a previous thread, please delete this one.

Walmart is apparently cleaning out inventory of the 40gb PS3's. Starting Sunday at their B&M stores (online right now) you get a $100 giftcard when you buy one. The PS3 rings up at $299 then charges $100 for the GC on the receipt (no doubt the frustrate scammers). Online they email a $100 GC code for use at walmart.com or samsclub.com, but for a $1.87 shipping charge you can turn the online GC into a B&M GC.

Online you can also get the $100 GC code when purchasing bundles, so put together some options and post them here. Shipping is free if you use the site-to-store option (you still pay tax ).

There is no word yet if this will apply to the MGS4 bundle coming out in a couple of weeks. The sale is confirmed to last through June 7 and rumored to last a 2nd week (through the 14th).

Good luck

It's also been said that the GC will also be offered with the other PS3 consoles and all Blu-Ray Players as a Father's Day Promotion.

They will not pricematch because of the promotional nature of the giftcard.

It looks like Best Buy is going to match the WalMart deal.

"case by case basis"
"must be available"
"This offer is only valid from June 1 - June 7 or until Wal-mart stock levels have been depleted."
"Once their stock levels have been depleted, Best Buy will terminate the value package early and will nolonger match the offer."

Gee, did BB leave themselves enough wiggle (out of it) room ?

And someone needs to tell them the sale lasts 2 weeks, not 1.

Case by case basis is total bullshit. Best Buy should man-up to this deal, they're acting like pussies.

I'm still going to try the deal at Best Buy tomorrow. Bought one about 6 weeks ago but exchanged it on the fourth week because it kept getting no signal on hdmi. When I exchanged it the clerk told me I have another 30 days to return/exchange it. Hopefully they'll give the giftcard but if not, oh well.

Well I picked up a PS3 at Walmart this morning and my $100 gift card. I think I'm going to keep it sealed and see if I can exchange it for the MSG/80gb bundle that comes out next week.

What's the point in doing that?

Exactly, I think I'm going to be satisfied with the 40gb version. If I decide to get MSG4 I can use the gift card and I'm still ahead.

Just called two local best buys and they both said they won't match the deal. One was pretty rude and just kept saying "no" like I was going to rob the store. Second one explained that they don't match gc's. I could have pushed it more but I was looking at my second receipt and it has the original transaction date: 4/19/08.

Congrats on the people that got in on the deal and good luck to the ones looking for it!

long time lurker, love the forum.
My wife bought me a ps3 at bb last week. I printed out the paper up above, took it to my best buy with my receipt and explained everything to the manager. She took the return, issued me a gift card to buy back the ps3 and a separate gift card for the 100. Turned out to be a great deal for me!

So, is there going to be any difference between the 80GB that was previously released and recently discontinued vs. the newer one that is being bundled with Metal Gear Solid 4? I realize it comes with the new DualShock controller, which I'm not really concerned with. I am happy getting the 40GB over the OLD 80GB system, but if this new version has anything improved I want to weigh my option accordingly before jumping the proverbial gun here.

That's why I kept my old PS2. It is connected to the same monitor as the new PS3 and already has 100% PS2 compatability
