Damn. I just bought a 40GB PS3 from Wal-Mart about 15 days ago. I still have the reciept. Any chance of me being able to exchange my PS3 and getting a new one with that gift card or will they only let me exchange it straight up?

I thought this was pretty slick, from CAG:

Here's how you can use your $100 Gift Card on the PS3 to get $100 off. I asked a manager at my store today who said it'd be okay.

1.) Purchase PS3.
2.) Use a Wal*Mart Credit Card to pay. If you don't have one, ask to sign up.
3.) Use one of the 12 Months no interest coupons with your purchase. (Instead, you might find one of the $20 cash back, if you know you'll be able to pay off the card ASAP).
4.) Get $100 Gift Card.
5.) When your card or statement arrives in the mail, take it to your Wal*Mart, go to the service desk and tell them you want to make a payment.
6.) Use the $100 Gift Card as payment.
7.) ...
8.) Profit.

I'm not looking for ways to screw the system, although I certainly don't look down upon it. Good for you guys who are looking at unique ways to try and actually get the PS3 for 299!

I went to Wal-Mart yesterday. Well, two actually. The first one in my area was sold out. The next one had one in the display, but a ton in the back too. I picked it up, get my 100 dollar gift card instantly, and then used it to pick up an HDMI cable, a game, and The Simpsons Movie on Blu-Ray. That's all money that normally would have had to come out of my pocket right there! Great flippin' deal.

That sounds like a legit way to do it. But, like the Sony style deal, you still need a credit card to do it. I try to stay away from credit card deals.

I would imagine that you paid at least $20 for that HDMI cable. My advice would be to return it and pick one up at the almighty www.monoprice.com .Congrats on your PS3-you should love it(I know that I do).

Yeah, it's legit, nothing wrong with it. I wouldn't get a CC just to do that though. Just thought I'd point it out, since it is indeed slick.

And honestly, who wouldn't be spending $100 at a place like Walmart over the next couple months anyways? It's not like you're getting a GC to the Sony Style store or someplace where you might not use it for a long time.

IIRC the Sony Style was actually a $100 credit to the account.

And I spend $100+ at Wal-Mart just in (some) groceries.

Gee, did BB leave themselves enough wiggle (out of it) room ?

And someone needs to tell them the sale lasts 2 weeks, not 1.

They sure did wiggle out of this one, I am in San Jose, called Santana Row store (around 01:30 pst)...they claim the last time they checked Walmart was out of stock, so no dice for me. Geez, BB is cutting off their nose to spite their face, because I will now wait (as long as I have too, I can be surprisingly patient when it comes to certain things) until I can pick up a PS3 bundled with a $100 gift card when I walk into a B&M electronics store.

This promotion may not boost PS3 sales as much as one might think, considering the number of retail stores that will wiggle out, or outright refuse to match the Walmart deal. BB should have just immitated WM, it would certainly help their bottom line (lets face it, that $100 BB GC means I will more than likely spend more than $100 in total as I use up the gift card, so sure, in the short term it hurts them, but in the long term it pays off as I start buying those expensive blu ray discs, instead of standard dvds).

Oh well, I am not going to chase the deal by calling, then scrambling to get to local w-marts in time to grab a PS3.

Congratulations to those that were able to get in on the deal without it being a major chore.

Yeah, forgot about that, was just thinking in general $100 that has to be used at Walmart is going to be used more often/easily than $100 to some highly specialized store.

According Sony's website you can use the sony card to purchase a ps3 at any authorized retailer and still get the $100 credit to your account. Assuming Wal-mart is an authorized retailer. That would make the deal even sweeter.

So how long will this sale last? I've heard some say it goes until the 7th and others say it lasts two weeks. I'm confused about it. I might not be able to afford the PS3 by the 7th but I would be able to if the sale lasts until at least the 13th. Is it going to?

Walmart is running the $100 giftcard promo on ALL Blu-ray players next week in the Father's Day circular. PS3's, including the MGS4 bundle, are included in this.

Thanks for letting me know, and by the way - cool signature.

I guess I'll be buying it for Fathers Day!

Had to grab this deal. Got an HDMI cable and a blue ray remote with the gift card, will use the remaining balance on MGS4 next week. I bought a 50 inch Samsung from BB about 6 months ago and got a free 360 with it. A year and a half ago I had no systems, now got the 3 big ones. Damn good year.

The problem is that it take about a month to get your card. Unless there is some way to expedite it.

I have always wanted to play God of War but it sounds like (from what I have read about the BC) I would do better to get a 40GB PS3 and a used PS2 than get an 80GB PS3 that has backwards compatibility? Correct?

there are some rumors that came out yesterday, that the 40 will be given BC through an update this fall. I'm just spreading the rumor, so don't take my word for it, though.

Why would that be? I haven't run into a PS2 game yet that I could not play on my 80GB.

Well from what I hear, a lot of people complain that their 80gb machines are kinda loud, distracting, like a 360. But, it's not EVERYONE but I knew it was a chance I didn't want to take if I was going to watch blu-ray films on it. I got the 40 gb.

I have read that there are a lot of issues with the BC on the 80GB.

That's why I kept my 7-year-old PS2. It still works great after so many years, and it gives me all the PS2 compatability I need.

And I don't think the 40gb PS3s could be made BC to anyone's satisfaction. Emulation software is just no match for dedicated chips.
