EA looks to Wii to drive sports growth
VANCOUVER (Reuters) - Video-game publisher Electronic Arts Inc (ERTS.O: Quote, Profile, Research) unveiled two initiatives on Tuesday to breathe new life into its sports business by making games that are easier to play and customized for Nintendo Co Ltd's (7974.OS: Quote, Profile, Research) popular Wii console.
Always wondered when the 3rd party companies would start to cater to the Wii. Know the audience.

As long as Madden is not as bad as it has been the past 2 years.

I'd gladly buy simpler versions of sports games. Just last night I dusted off NBA Street Vol. 2. It's not a basketball sim, but you play basketball. I never played the American football or association football versions, so I don't know if those were good.
The trick is they need to keep the possibility of customization, but not require it.

Suspended; also need updated email
I don't like some of the phrases used
EA sports games for the Wii shouldn't be simpler or dumbed down
They should just make use of the Wii's controllers to the fullest

Like The Bus, I'd gladly welcome simpler, more arcade-like sports games, but I doubt EA will be the company to bring them.
They should just work out a deal to allow Tecmo to use the NFL license instead of having that game suffer for not having it and having their game just falter like it probably will, because I sincerely think EA doesn't really "get" what they're aiming for.

I enjoy sports but I'm not a fanatic. I believe more fans are casual fans not fanatics that enjoy the stat and sim portions of the game more. Modern sports games are too complex and too in depth for a majority of fans.
I'd much rather play an NBA Jamz or Cyberball 2072 style 'game' than any modern EA or Madden 'sim'.
If I wanted to play a REAL sports sim I'd go back to playing NFL Challenge.
