There's a new Castlevania coming? Shit I was thinking about selling my DS Lite, but I can't resist those darn games.
|
If anyone is interested, Amazon DotD: Bleach for $18.99
|
Obviously looking forward to DQIV and Castlevania. Can't wait to hear impressions of The World Ends With You in the coming days before I jump. I've just been underwhelmed lately with the cost:enjoyment ratio of retail games as of late, but that one appears to be worth it.

Does From the Abyss have a Diablo II sort of feel? It sounds like it: random dungeons, leveling up, skill tress, co-op
Add in some random loot and rare equipment sets to assemble and i will be hooked. |
It sounds like it and yeah, it sounds potentially dangerous.
• Create your own unique Abyss! Every time you start a brand new journey, the game will randomly generate a custom world that will give you a unique experience every time! • Customize your character! Distribute your skill points that define your character’s powers and destiny. Will you go the way of the sword or be a powerful spell caster? • Capture your enemy’s soul! Steal the enemy’s techniques and use them to turn the tide of the battle! • Co-op Mode! Connect with a friend wirelessly and work together to defeat the Dark Lord of the Abyss! |
Yeah, so I'm in Ravine of the Dead in Shiren the Wanderer. I've got God-like equipment and SEVERAL precautions, so I'm thinking: "I've got this." The monsters are pretty tough right off the bat (the same group of monsters from the final floors of Table Mountain on floor one here), but with my gear they pose no problems. A couple floors down I hop onto the stairs and "It's a trap! Armor Ward +55 has been cursed!" What the shit?! So I uncurse it, find the real stairs, move on. So on the next floor I enter a room with THREE staircases. Yeah, this is going to be fun.
On the plus side, it has some new music. :D2: |
..and I'm dead. Floor 13 or 14, so I should be able to get a rescue over WFC without issue. I hit a monster house, which wasn't a big problem since I ate some Air Devil meat and became invisible to all and killed everything. Normally I use an Herb of Sight in a full floor monster house but I didn't have one and I went for all the loot anyway (since this dungeon has been fairly devoid of it). I hit a Riceball trap, which I guess cancels out your attack and defense and I had a two move/two attack monster behind me.
Speaking of traps, if I HAVE to come back to this place, I need to bring my Trap Master Armband. :( |
Good God, it sounds like you should get college credit for playing that game.
|
Man that Shiren the Wanderer sounds great Pixy, could you maybe give me a brief overview of the gameplay starting out? What do I need to know to get started? Are there any games that are more mainstream I may have played that compare?
|
I hope they make a Shiren-style game based around America's Top Model or The Office. Now THAT I'd buy.

I could go for something more anime based, like maybe Lum or Ranma. Make the graphics a little brighter and bubblier like some of that style anime would be kind of neat because it could lead to more "fantasy" type boards and a little more variety.

I'm thinking now that it's not Shiren that needs it's own thread, it's Pixy... :)
So Pixy, are you just going to post Shiren stuff here, or are you going to start a separate one? I've been taking it pretty slowly with Shiren, going back and forth from the first town to the third over and over... |

Amazon will have DS game deals on the 25th. Could be all crap. Could be all gold. I have no idea.
|
Advance Wars: Days of Ruin for $16.99 as the Gold Box deal - not bad.
|
I finally got my rescue this morning in Shiren and decided to bomb through the rest of the Ravine on the Dead. As expected, while being more careful about traps I made it through rather quickly until the Ark Dragons started showing up. They can hit you for 50 damage every few turns from ANYWHERE on the floor. After going through a couple of hits of my only Chiropractic Jar I had, I decided it was time to just use up all my Air Devil and Wraith Devil meats (which practically make you invincible until you revert). Using a Staff of Postpone, which warps a monster to the exit and freezes them, helped me decipher the real exits from the trap ones and I made it out alive, floor 26!
So, I've only got two more dungeons to beat. :D2: No free Wi-Fi at work, so I won't know what my WFC Rank is until I home. :( Somebody offered me a Minotaur Axe (adds frequent critical hits to your weapon if melded) for a rather simple Table Mountain rescue earlier in the week, so hopefully that hasn't been taken care of yet so I can grab that sweet, sweet prize. |
I picked up Uno/Uno Free Fall Skip Bo about a week ago and I'm HOOKED. This was a surprise hit. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....ci_sku=8133423
$20 anywhere. I was playing Uno with my family and decided to pick it up. The comp beats me easily even at the easiest setting, so I haven't played it all that much. I had played and liked Uno Free Fall so I play that sometimes. But the winner was Skip-Bo. I had never heard of it before and I am completely and utterly hooked. I would have paid $20 for this game along. I have hours already put into it. Definitely recommend it! :) |
Yeah, I picked up 2 copies of Uno/Skip-bo at Best Buy, I think it was $10 on sale one week, so I could rationalize picking up two copies for network play.
|
^ That's exactly why I never bought it. A game like that should be single-cart multiplayer and online. I stuck with the 360 version for $5. My daughter plays it more than I do, though.

I'm actually kinda surprised that eh DS is so popular. Wheres all the promotion and hype? Hell an new Wii or XBox game comes out and its like the second coming. If I want to find out about a new DS title, I usually have to do a Google search.
Could be I'm just looking in the wrong places. But beign a dS user I kinda feel like the red-headed stepchild of the gaming world. :p Currently playing: Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword (brilliant gameplay dunno why this wasn't promoted to the heavens). God help me I'm STILL a Meteos whore. And I guess its time to turn in my man card, as the title I've been most hooked on lately has been a figure-skating career sim. Guess I'm a bit burned out on finding goddamn crystals, and slaughtering 500 monsters so I can go up a level, but I've been having fun damnit! It's nice for a change when my biggest concern is whether I can make that triple-spin, or what color of skimpy little skating costume I should get. |
I'm psyched for Crosswords DS next week.
|
sweet, a new tecmo bowl. It has to be as good as Super Tecmo Bowl for me to buy it.

Yeah but come on, it's not like the sprites ever resembled actual players.
|
It's not about resembling the players. Well, at least for me anyway. It's about the familiarity of the teams and the names.
I really hope it sells well to everyone else though, so there may be hope of future iterations after EA stops being the devil. |
