It is kind of a generic old school RPG, but its $15 and well translated and has solid production value. It seems well worth that price.
This game is 10.99 on Amazon and comes with $10 off your next videogame purchase...

Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem! is coming too. I love that series.

For the 3DS there is another Professor Layton game, tentatively titled "Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle"

There is a 4th game as well in between the two just announced. Hopefully the US gets that one also.

The entire series is coming to the US. It's been announced since the first one was a huge hit. Great series.

I'm loving my DS. I now have over 200 games, 90% of which are AAA titles - it's amazing how much quality software there is for this game. And despite it all, Picross 3D takes up most of my time.

Etrian Odyssen and Atlus fan (also dig NIS America, Aksys, Xseed and Japanese-based games). But definitely looking forward to EO3.

I finally saw a DSi XL the other day. HOLY SHIT that thing is humongous. How the hell do you hold that in one hand and a stylus in the other without severely cramping up? Yikes.

It's expected to ship from Amazon on 9/15.

I put a pre-order in (@ $30), there's not a lot of deals on DS games right now.

Oh, the Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva movie was licensed for UK release and is coming out on BD and DVD on October 18th.

Will the BD work in the US?

Standard BD - £12.93

Collectors BD - £35.47

It will probably be region locked, but I can get around that with my LG. Hmm, tempting.

Anyone seen any deals for Layton for the 12th? I have my giftcard from Toys R Us for Dragon Quest and can use that, but I was hoping for maybe another giftcard deal as well.

Re: Official Nintendo DS Thread VIII: 65 Million Strong.. and Growing

Older game, but I guess I'll post it here....

Diddy Kong Racing DS

I got this game a long while ago, and beat the 2 adventure worlds, but I never got to unlock TT, the best character from the N64 version. Seeing that he is unlocked by beating all his time trials in all vehicles, and i never did that, decided to give it a go.

After doing all the levels, with some of them being DAMN hard, there were about 3 levels that were virtually near impossible to catch up to him. I was like "How the hell am I supposed to beat him?" I tried all different characters, and I was about to give up, so I looked at tips online.

I saw a tip about what upgrades you should get, and shouldn't get....

Upgrades?

I completely missed that vehicles could be upgraded. My god, after I did it, it was a breeze for those final stages.... Anyway. Great game, except for those starting boosts. Hate those touch pen starts...

It's actually not as bad as you think. I have one and I love it. The bigger screen is worth the extra heft. In regards to holding, I kinda use my entire right hand as a rest and hold the stylus in the left.

I think it was a thread on this forum that got me to check out EO1.

Of course, my DS backlog is huge, but I'm still getting EO3. I didn't even finish EO2! And I stopped playing DQ for a bit since I finally got around to Infinite Space and I'm hooked on it.

Just got my Etrian Odyssey shipping notice from Amazon... I didn't even realize it was releasing so soon! Guess Infinite Space is going back to the backlog pile...

I haven't kept up - can anyone give me a brief rundown of the currently available DS hardware, and their games compatability?

DS Lite - Plays DS and GBA games

DSi - Play DS games and can download and play DSiWare games. Does not play GBA games.

DSi XL - Just essentially a really big DSi.

EDIT: Also, any DS game which requires a peripherial which plugs into the GBA slot (ie Guitar Hero) will not work with the DSi.

Re: Official Nintendo DS Thread VIII: 65 Million Strong.. and Growing

Is there a 3DS thread already? I can't think of search terms that would help me find it since "3D" and "3DS" are both too short to search on this site.

Anyway, 3DS press conference is going on in Japan right now. Most exciting news so far IMO is a Virtual Console service that will have "Game Boy, Game Boy Advance and Classic games in 3D".

March 2011 release for the US. It'll be the equivalent of about $300 US when it launches in Japan in late February.
