Monochrome Gameboy Love.

I've recently gotten into the original Gameboy (with a GBA, not the original hardware). Paid $30 for Mario Picross 2 and it's worth it every penny. What are some good GB games? Anyone else play the GB regularly? It's amazing how good a lot of those games still are.

Tetris and Super Mario Land 1 & 2 are winners. Also the Zelda game.

I've still got my original Gameboy I got while in middle school, and I think about 7-8 games. I like Tetris, Golf, Tennis, and the Final Fantasy Legends games the best. I play some of them still, on rare occasions, but not recently. I remember playing 2 player Golf and Tetris with a guy, using the link cable, on a long bus trip in high school. That was a lot of fun.

Dragon Warrior 1/2 and 3!

edit: wait, I think those were GBC games... are those fully compatible with the monochrome GB?

Are we talking the cinder block sized game boy generation1? If so, sweet! I still have like four of those whoppers sitting somewhere in the house. Also, Kurby's pinball land = the depletion of hours and hours of your life.

CreatureX 03-12-08 06:11 PM

'Kid Icarus: Of Myth and Monsters' and 'Gargoyle's Quest' are two of my favorites. :)

Uh oh...GatorDeb has a new Toy. :p Nevada will soon see a shortage of GB related stuff. :p

I second Kirby's Pinball Land; a very addictive title. I also like the pink puff's other spinoff games Kirby's Star Stacker and Kirby's Block Ball.

One of my all-time fav games on any platform is Donkey Kong ('94). It is a terrific puzzler with a jillion levels and fun Mario action. Criminally overlooked.

Another underrated title is The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. I know no Zelda game can actually be classified as underrated, but Link's Awakening is my favorite in the series.

I'm also a big fan of the Mario Land series, which already received a mention. I am actually playing the third one (aka the first Warioland) on my GBA SP these days.

Others to consider are Batman: The Animated Series, Motocross Maniacs, Hal Wrestling and Bionic Commando (the original monochrome, not that craptacular GB Color one). I consider the GB Bionic Commando on par with, if not slightly better than, the heralded NES version.

Oh yeah, and don't forget Tetris Attack.

(BTW, I think all that I have mentioned are pre-GB Color - I apologize in advance otherwise)

As you can see, I dig the ol' GB. I'll check out my collection to see if there are any others ...

I have an original Gameboy in my closet but I rarely ever play it cause I have a shitty collection of games. It's fun to get Tetris out now and then but that is all I ever play.

I'll dig mine out when I get home. Tetris was great, has there been a better version made yet?
