So this game wasn't even a blip on my radar until last night but I was up till nearly 4am playing it. The concept is simple. You take any song you have in nearly any format (CD, MP3, WMA, OGG, Flac, and iTunes Deluxe) and after a few seconds (it takes about 15-20 seconds for an average length song) it has your song analyzed and off you go. You're set upon a road which you can surf and rake up points in a way similar to Tetris. Build up the colors in groups of three or more... the larger the group the better you'll do, different colors equal different points, etc. There's a bunch of different ships which incorporate several kinds of game play modes. For someone like me with nearly 7000 MP3s, this game could possibly never end. It works with every song I've given it so far, from the hectic drum beats of NINs March of the Pigs, to the super short and calm Tea for the Tillerman by Cat Stevens, and everything in between. I can't sing enough praises for this game. There's a demo available through Steam (and proabably elsewhere if you take a look through Google) where you can toss up to 5 of your own songs into it, which I did, and then immediately bought it off Steam for only 9.95. Buying it off Steam also gives you the entire Orange Box soundtrack (not just select tracks, but every track off every Valve game from Half-Life all the way to Portal) Agh! I gotta keep playing, I hope to see you guys on the Leaderboards (oh yeah, it scans the ID3 tag which then allows you to compare your score to other people who have 'surfed' the song). <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/wZPdwXgwf1Y&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/wZPdwXgwf1Y&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> |
Ok so is it just left right controls and if you don't want a block you don't touch it. Also is the tempo of the song affect the tempo of the blocks
|
Yep, left right controls, and you don't touch blocks you don't want. In the easier difficulties there are side lanes that allow you to avoid being in the way of any blocks. Several things affect the tempo of the blocks, and the tempo of the song is one of them, also, BPM and instruments in the song affect the blocks.
|
Was just playing the demo. It is a fun little game. There are more than just left and right depending on which guy you play. The ninja guy can jump and open the wings of his ship. Some other guy can grab bricks and place them where needed.

Here's my MP3 playlist, lemme know which songs you want to see put into Audiosurf and then I'll record a video for ya!

Grrrr, tried to install and run it, but got some sort of missing channel error in Quest3D. I suck. :(
|
Sorry to hear that man, I hope you can get it working. I'm loving this game!
Here are a few videos I captured... Offspring's "Americana" <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Bzgxp9lKrw4&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Bzgxp9lKrw4&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> The White Stripes' "Rag and Bones" <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/tavUA96sBK4&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/tavUA96sBK4&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> A Perfect Circle's "Judith" <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/3ptUf_-OCjs&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/3ptUf_-OCjs&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> |
Harmonix is advertising a game on the Rock Band website that looks like this, and it's for the iPod. Has anyone tried that one out?
|
Wow, that looks like my all time favorite PS2 game Amplitude! Thanks for letting me know about it, I'll be getting it for sure.
|
Phase? I guess that does look cool. I know the PSP has an application/game like that as well. It could certainly be fun. It appears you have to pre-load the songs you want to play into a Phase playlist first, so if you want access to all your songs, you really have to double up your song storage which is a bummer. Still, it might be worth checking out...
|
If it's running off your iPod, you wouldn't have to double your storage. You just set a playlist as the one that Phase uses. The song wouldn't be on the iPod twice.
|
Not only did I enjoy the demo, but Valve gives you the entire Orange Box soundtrack free in the demo. May buy this one down the road, but after Beats and Phase I'm kind of music gamed out right now.
|
Curse you! There goes my weekend. :)
Pretty cool game. I bought it last night and ran through songs by Roxy Music, A Flock of Seagulls, J-Live, Pixies, Motion City Soundtrack, Handsome Boy Modeling School, and Seu Jorge (!). I thought about also getting Phase for my iPod, but the thing is that I always keep it in a silicone cover. The responsiveness isn't all that great as it is, so I don't know how enjoyable playing a game like that on it would be. Currently, the only one I play on it is iQuiz. |
I have been loving this game... I've always been a huge fan of music games - frequency and amplitude are two of my favorites. I didn't know about Phase - maybe when I get a newer nano.
Speaking of which - woot.com is selling refurbished 8gb ones for 140 shipped. |
I tried the demo and bought Audiosurf a short time later, but I haven't played in a few weeks.
|
Audiosurf is based on a real story.
|
Hey - in case anyone is interested, here's a song I made on my computer years ago - it's kinda fun in the game. It's sorta techno I guess.

I just...ahem...wanted to show you another cool game mode. ;) |
Downloaded this the other night. A heck of a lot of fun. I think the highest scoring track I had was "Material Girl" by Madonna. It moved just slow enough that I could easily maneuver the lanes, and just fast enough that the blocks wouldn't disappear the moment I got three touching each other, so I could rack up huge combos on all three lanes. Good times.

Re: Audiosurf: Your new addiction. (PC)
After a break lasting a couple of years, I just started playing this again a few weeks back. And then last week I got an email about a new version coming out this year (Audiosurf Air):
http://air.audio-surf.com/ http://air.audio-surf.com/AudiosurfA...nshot1_512.png Though I'm really looking forward to Rock Band Blitz this summer, I'm also pretty keen on playing the new Audiosurf since I'll presumably be able to use any song in my music library, not just RB DLC. |
