Last night, I was playing Call of Duty 4, chatting with my friend in Mexico, and downloading demos in the background. No hiccups at all. - Multiplayer games, content download, leaderboards. Almost every game has some online component. I'm not a big gamer, and don't play multi-player very often, but XBox Live and XBLA is the bees knees. That's cool for you, but for some of us, $50 a year can buy a quarter million life insurance... So, no thanks, i prefer "free" on-line play. If not, i'll use my 48 hours cards :) As for contents, you can access them FREE (you don't have to pay M$ to download demos), just a clarification ;). |

I highly doubt M$ is gonna waive the on-line play fees... but i highly doubt Sony gonna offer FREE on-line play after Resistance 2's release. That game's on-line play will kill any current on-line feature. Just read this month's GameInformer, no doubt that R2:UWF will be a system seller. So, most likely, Sony gonna charge people :( (they better have those 48 hours cards handy). |

But I wait for sales on the 13 month cards, have always found them for about $30. But for me, the hassle of not having an always-on paid membership (and dealing with the limitations of silver and/or juggling 48 hour cards) is worth at least $100 a year. Or, if Microsoft is listening, I'll never pay more than $25 a year! |
Yeah, $20-$25 is a good range for a full year... well, you can get those "13-months" cards for that price from eBay ;) (they are cheap b/c it's not legit, but they do work).
|
$7 a month isn't that bad and it made sense to pay for the bandwidths that Microsoft is paying for. When I controlled 3 servers for my call of duty clan, I had to pay about $120 a month (2 servers in USA and 1 in Netherland) and our members helped with donation.

But I just input my last card, good till 03/09 now. I may buy one soon on ebay if it is indeed an exploit, before they close it. I imagine the fine print says they are for new members only or something? |

I imagine the fine print says they are for new members only or something? So you sign up as a new account with a fake number. Live gives you Gold for free for a month. You think the number worked. One month later you are cut off but the auction is obviously way in the past by then. If Live went free and maintained the same level of service fine. However i am happy paying 50$ a year to maintain the features i get. I think there needs to be dedicated servers because the p2p hosting is crappy sometimes and service through December sucked horribly. But over the past few years i have been very happy with Live. Actually, if i could pay 100$ a year and have the guarantee that cheaters/asshats would be either permanently console banned and/or castrated i would buy into that premium service. |
this is a bit OT, but still related to gaming and consoles, since involves on-line gaming...
why do you guys care so much about cheaters and a-holes? if a-holes, just ignore them (there's a ignore list no?), if cheaters, big deal... anyhow, i got less stress, since i rarely play on-line. If i do play on-line (both PS3 or X360), i play with someone i know personally, not just "anyone" yeah, including buddies you know from forums etc... for that reason, you never really see me posting my tags or asking for any ;) Less stress that way... |

The auto-renewal is $49.99 for 12 months. That's $4.16 a month. Life insurance aside*, that's less than one fast food meal a month or half the price of a game rental. Nab it on sale for around $30 and you are looking at a measly $2.50 a month. *hands down the best argument for Sony's service I have ever seen. |

-Has this generation of platform games gotten away from the 'arcade' type games that were very popular on '16-bit which were side scrolling games, and on the 32/64-bit which were 3-D type solving games. I guess I am asking are there games out there anymore that are good such that resemble games like Mario, DonkeyKong Country, Sonic, Crash Bandicoot? Or are those games of the past and really not popular anymore? -Are most games now so massive that solving them shouldn't even be a goal anymore, as you need strategy guides, etc to really solve. Or am I just being too extreme on how I am perceiving them? -I am leaning towards a PS3 cause that has a BluRay player, and it looks like that is going to be the winner of the Format-War. Yet from what I heard, the XBox360 has better games? -Games I like: Anything EA Sports (Madden, NHL, TigerWoods, FIFA), -Which is the best racing game out on the market? -Any good Sonic, Mario-type games out there ? -Which is the best Star Wars game on the market? I know this is long, but it is weird how I haven't followed this stuff for a couple of years, and I am totally lost on the video game market. Side-scrollers are still popular, but arent really made anymore. You can get them by downloading them via Xbox live or Nintendo's Wii Virtual Console. If you like movies more than games the PS3 is the best choice for you. After WB's announcement, HD DVD is going the way of the dreamcast sooner or later. EA sports games are good, and are really the same no matter what console you get them for. The best racer depends on what kind of racing you prefer... If you like realism, Project Gotham 4 or Gran Turismo 5 would be a good choice. But I have always preferred more arcade-like racers like Ridge Racer 7 or Sega Rally Revo. There are no good Sonic games at this time. Super Mario Galaxy has been proclaimed the best Mario ever though. There hasnt been a good Star wars game for the newest generation of consoles yet, (Wii, PS3, XB360) unless you count the Lego games...Which really shouldnt be counted. Thanks. |

Yeah, I always hate when people do that because they think it is cool and/or funny. It's really as lame as that stupid "leet" talk. Every single profit based company in existence is of course out for one thing and one thing only: profit. Microsoft is definitely not unique in that way. For every profit based company, not just Microsoft, making the most profit possible is the number one goal, and everything else is a distance second. |

Oh, sorry about the M$... it was not intentional... i have been using that notation before they make the Xbox.
Okay, i'll try my best to use MS or $ony... Sorry, $ony is a bit harder to type (try it for yourself). I'm not on any sides if you guys must know. Again, hardware-wise, i lean toward the PS3. And if i can travel back in times, i would say the original Xbox is more superior than the PS2 (i skipped the last gen totally, hello, i had to finish college and get a job). You guys tend to make fun of stuffs (which is fine, that's the point of the forums, i get that), but twisting things around is another thing. I never said the switch button on the back of the PS3 "unleash full power of the PS3." I simply said that it's a nice little feature most people didn't notice, but hell, it makes things a lot simpler for people who have kids or pets. Geez, get over it XmiyuX. Honestly, if i haven't bring up those little things, you probably don't even know they existed. Like i said, you probably don't use those little features, but knowing they are there, it's all good. p.s. do i compare the graphics of the X360 and PS3 side by side? For goodness sake, i never did! Since i own both systems, i can compare them side by side physically (hardware-wise) along with the rest of the entertainment equipments. |
