Dark Messiah of Might and Magic

So this will be coming out on 360 in a few weeks. Has anyone played the PC version and willing to post some impressions? I very much enjoyed the demo, both the single player and multiplayer aspects. This may be my next game purchase.

It has been a while since I played the PC game, and I only played the beginning, but I was under the impression that this console game was a different game. Not a sequel but just that they changed and "consolized" a lot of things.

I'm pretty sure it's a direct port of the PC game that was released in 07.

Really? I figured it was different since it has the "Elements" tag on the end.

I don't believe so. The 360 demo looked just like the PC screen shots I've seen. I could be wrong though.

Hopefully it's a fixed version of the PC version, that game was a trainwreck from a technical prespective.

From what little I know, I believe the console version is a direct port with an extra chapter added in the single player game (akin to the extra chapter in the PC port of Gears of War) and a revamped multiplayer mode.

I played through the game when it first came out on PC. It was okay, nothing great, but not bad either. It is kind of like a Diablo style hack-n-slash game. You get three different skill trees to choose from: a warrior, rogue, or wizard, basically just like Diablo.

The story is bland and basically non-existent. I don't even remember any of the character names, even the main character. That is how forgettable the storyline is.

The game uses the Source engine (from Half-life 2), so it has a lot of flashy physics stuff. You have a kick attack that doesn't actually damage an enemy; it just shoves him backwards. So if you are fighting near a cliff, you can kick him off the edge and watch him go flying off into the distance. You will find a lot of conveniently placed enemies standing near cliffs with their backs to you that you can kick off. There are also a lot of conveniently placed traps that you can kick enemies into, like for instance random spike beds. If you see a crate hanging by a rope with an enemy underneath, you can cut the rope and the crate will fall and kill the enemy. The hack-n-slashing does get repetitive, but being on the constant lookout for ways to use the environment to kill enemies keeps the game moderately fresh.

Basically the game is pure hack-n-slash with no story but tons of the glorified physics stuff the Source engine does well. It that is your cup of tea, then you will probably enjoy it; otherwise don't bother.

Did you download the patches? The game ran like a slideshow on my PC prior to the patches, but after installing them, the game ran much better and I never noticed any major bugs.

Thanks taffer. How linear is it? Is there any type of exploration or does each area basically have a start point and an end point?

It is completely linear. The game is divided into about 10 chapters with specific beginning and end points with no random wandering between. If Diablo and Half-life 2 mated, Dark Messiah would be the child.

I have the PC version still sitting in the box, I am going to wait til the 360 version comes out to see which one to play. I'm thinking PC since it is first person, but the 360 has extra content.

I played the 360 demo - I thought is was pure asshole.
