Professional baseball player turns MMORPG devoloper?

After Curt Schilling is done with baseball, he is going to take the next logical step in his life which of course is the fact that he will oversee devolopment of a new MMORPG game. Makes sense right? :scratch2:

Schilling is an avid Everquest and now World of Warcraft player. I've seen a handful of interviews with him talking about it. It's pretty cool.

Schilling is also a huge douchebag.

Curt Schilling was one of the first 'celebrities' that really talked about his love for everquest. It was serious business for him.

He even had a mini beef with a former teammate I believe when he pk'ed him in EQ hah.

Schilling's EverQuest habit came to light after a 2001 game when his former Philadelphia Phillies teammate Doug Glanville hit two homers off of Schilling, who had just joined the Arizona Diamondbacks. Glanville explained to a writer for ESPN.com that the homers were payback for Schilling's role in the death of Bing- bong, Glanville's beloved, dwarven paladin.

Glanville's tale: "One day, Schill was playing his character, Cylc, and he asked me to team up with him in Faydwer, in the zone of the Butcherblock Mountains, to kill Aviaks, which are basically walking birds." The pair encountered danger, according to Glanville, and Schilling ran away: "I vowed revenge on the soul of Bingbong, for the negligent actions of Cylc." Hence the two homers.

Later, Allakhazam offered Schilling the chance to tell his side of the story. "C'mon dude, you ever hear of a cleric pulling in a group with a paladin?" Schilling answered. "Anyone with a lick of sense in EQ could see right through [Glanville's] babbling and knows that he was the train conductor in that entire episode. Doug's the goods though. Fun as hell to group with. His ranger is around 30 now. Nahir is his name. Give him a tell if you want a fun guy to group with. He experiments with other characters a lot more than I do though."

Also in 2006, Schilling played a 'bad guy' in EQ2, where if you challenge him, you help raise money for some charity.

He is also a Huge BG 1 and 2 fan. So he is a-ok in my book. He also got his start in MMPORG's in Ultima Online, like myself.

I betcha he's the type that ninjas epic drops after a 20-man raid instance.

He's also big into war games, especially the old Advanced Squad Leader. Partial owner in a war game company - MultiMan Publishing.

Joystiq just posted this article about it:

Codename is "Copernicus". It would be really cool if this is a Space MMO they are working on. It's pretty interesting that R.A. Salvatore and Todd MacFarlane are working on it as creative partners.

He is a big nerd who can throw a fast ball. Hehehe. Good for him if he can pursue what he wants to do after baseball.

Yeah, good for him.

Toad 01-11-08 10:19 AM

What is "MMORPG"?
