$1800 to play Crysis on a PC
People talk about console gamers 'getting screwed' by big companies but the hoops that PC gamers have to jump just to play the game at barely 38fps is raducluous.
http://www.gemaga.com/wp-content/upl....thumbnail.JPG "PC Games Hardware magazine has finally done it. They got Crysis to run smooth on very high with a Triple SLI video card setup. The cards alone cost over $1800. I didn’t even know they made power supplies that could output 1200W!" story here |
Please. Who the hell plays at that resolution anyway? It would look great at resolutions much lower than that. I still run everything at 1280x1024 based on my monitor.

After seeing pictures of Crysis in PC Gamer Magazine, I would say it looks awesome. But hate that it require steep PC hardware to make it work. In my case, I would have to buy a new PC to make Crysis run. -rolleyes-

That a sexy machine though.

This is why I bought an xbox 360. Hardware/software requirements for PC games got positively stupid.

Here is a monitor to go with that rig. Yes, it's curved.

You don't need to spend $1800, or have a high end PC, to play Crysis. The developers have always said that current hardware wouldn't run the "Very High" settings well. They meant those settings for future hardware, so that the game still looked good years from now. In hindsight, they should have just left those settings out, and put out a patch later that added them, when hardware caught up. You don't miss anything playing the game on medium or high settings. At those settings, it still looks better than just about anything else out now.
|
I have a $450 computer, it does everything I need and plays Crysis in Medium at a resolution adequate for my 19" monitor (1280x1024), I think I'll stick with that, heh heh.

I have a X2 3800+ at 2.3ghz and 2gb of DDR400 with a 3850 512 and play at medium with average 35fps. It's playable. I'm wondering how much better it would be with a E4500 @ 3ghz?

Any word if this game is going to be ported to the 360? That monitor up above is nuts. It sounds like it is a DLP.
|
Can DLP be flat? I thought with the wheels and mirrors it has to use projected light like Rrear Projection or Projector.
So PC games like Crysis will always 'call the manufacturers higher'? So you're ok with always being behind the ball technologically for the new PC games? |

I just recently built a new gaming rig that will probably last me another 4-5 years. I probably spent 1200 or so and at the same time I can always upgrade along the road if I feel I need to. Mind you I built from scratch versus upgrading my old pc which would have been even cheaper and I could have done along the way. On top of that the average pc game is usually 39.99 so right there I am saving $20 a pop not to mention the pc I use for other things besides gaming. Crysis cost me 29.99, Orange Box was 29.99 and COD4 was 39.99 versus 59.99 for a console game in addition to not having to pay to play online or pay to play even less downloadable content than the PC counterpart. For example there are already multiple mods available for COD4 including a zombie mod. |
Possible you'll see this game hit on PS3 or 360. Possible Winter 2008 or early 2009.
